Keeping Grace - Page 61

“By the way, you can drop me from your insurance plan. I’ll get my own tomorrow. I love you, but it’s time for me to let you go.” I stood and looked down at her wondering why I’d allowed her to control me all these years. “Goodbye, Mother. I’ll reach out to you when I’m ready.”

Her mouth opened and closed like a gasping fish. “Grace. Grace, don’t walk away from me, young lady,” she whispered, her tone harsh. “Grace, get back here. You are embarrassing me.”

I knew she wouldn’t raise her voice in public, so I walked out of the coffee shop without her calling after me. She wasn’t one to make scenes. She had to keep face no matter what was happening. It was sad really. To know she only lived her life based on other people’s opinions of her.

I could barely sit still on my drive back to the ranch. I was on Team Kingston. I had Storm, my sister, and Liam. I could finally settle in a place I loved and wanted to be.

I had let my mother go for me to move on with my life. It felt like the weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I smiled. And now I was on my way back to where the two men I loved were.

During the thirty-minute drive, I thought of what I would do. How I would open up to them. I texted Jessie, and she met me at the barn when I arrived to help me prepare. After I tacked up all the horses, I texted Scott and Ty to meet me in the barn. I had a big blanket in one saddlebag, a bottle of whiskey and cups in another, as well as a few more things I hoped we would use. If everything went the way I imagined, then we would make use of everything I brought.

My heart stopped when my two men rounded the corner and walked toward me. I didn’t think I would ever get used to calling them mine. Every cell in my body screamed at me to rush at them, but I had to wait. I wanted this more than anything. I needed them to know I was all in, but not here. Not yet.

When they stopped in front of me, without a word, I jutted my chin toward Jameson and Foxy. They knew exactly what I was telling them. Both of them grabbed their mounts and followed me as I led them into the open fields. When they closed in on both sides, I picked up the pace and had Storm take off in the direction of where it all began. Where I hoped it would all begin again.
