Keeping Grace - Page 52

Scott got up and gave the chili another good stir as we sat in silence for a few minutes. If I was going to step back and let Grace lead, then Scott needed to step up as well.

“You know, you need to tell Grace how you feel.” I eyed him.

“What do you mean? When we get back, I’m going to tell her that I’m sorry and that I love her. We both are.”

“That’s not what I meant, and you know it. You need to open up to her. Tell her about Hannah. Open up to her about what happened and how it makes you feel. Travis was right. You need to let Hannah go, and Grace deserves to know about her.”

“I know. I’ve been wanting to tell Grace since her accident, but I can’t bring myself to start that conversation. It nearly killed me to think we might have lost Grace.”

“Well, if I’m going to step back and give the reins to Grace, then you have to man up and tell her. This can only work if we are in this together. If we’re honest with not just how we feel but the things holding us back. I want this relationship with Grace to work, Scott. She’s the one for us.”

“Deal.” Scott gave a firm head nod. “I know she’s it for us.”

“This is going to be the longest three days ever. I hope Blake can help us find Grace once we get back. We haven’t heard anything from Gavin. Do you think they found her?”

“I hope so. And I really hope she hasn’t gone far. I’ve got to admit I’m kind of nervous about what’s going on in her head right now. I think it would kill me if she’s gone forever, and we never got a chance to make things right.”

“Me, too, dude. Me, too.” I stared into the fire and watched the flames dance as I tried to focus on the good. Grace’s beautiful smile came to mind, and I kept it in the forefront of mine as we ate dinner.

We were determined to get her back. Nothing would stand in our way.
