Never Run (May Moore Suspense Thriller 1) - Page 48

“Stop pushing me,” Boone growled. He didn’t sound in the least penitent.

“If you walk where you’re told to walk, you won’t be pushed,” Adams retorted.

“My wrists are sore in these handcuffs,” Boone complained.

There was a resoundingly unsympathetic silence from the other two.

May heard the car doors slam, and the vehicle roared to life.

She knew that the killer was being driven away. He was most likely going to be taken straight back to the police department, where Kerry and Adams would question him. Given the weight of evidence, May was sure that before too long, her sister would wrap up this case successfully.

"It's still unfair, I think," Owen told her. "You could have arrested this guy, too."

"It's okay," May said reassuringly. "We didn't fail. We caught the right person. We just weren't as quick to arrest him. At least he’s in custody now. And anyway, given how aggressive he was, it’s probably just as well they handled it.”

“True,” Owen said.

“He can’t kill anyone else. And hopefully, he'll confess to where Cassandra is."

May didn't even dare to mention her other hope, that this killer might also still, somehow, have Lauren alive.

They needed to row back to the marina and drive back to the police department immediately. The questioning would be all-important, and if she hustled, she might be there in time to overhear what this suspect said.
