Never Run (May Moore Suspense Thriller 1) - Page 37

The boat bounced on the waves, as May headed back to land.

"I'm not a bad person," Mike suddenly said. "It wasn't my fault. It was my friend's fault. He made me drink."

“It can happen,” she said sympathetically.

"I should never have done what I did. I've attacked an officer of the law. You could arrest me for this.” Now he sounded horrified.

"Don't worry, Mike. It's all right," May reassured him. "You were not in a fully aware state when you woke up. I’m just glad we’re able to get you help. They’ll sort everything out at the hospital."

She reached the shore and helped him out of the boat.

The hospital was a ten-minute drive away. But, as May climbed into the car, her phone beeped.

It was a message from Sheriff Jack, and seeing his name, she quickly glanced at it before heading for the hospital.

The message was short and terse.

“Get back to the PD ASAP. We need to have an urgent meeting."

May felt her stomach plummet. Without a doubt, her perceptive boss had found out that she'd disobeyed his instructions.

She knew that there would be a world of trouble waiting for her when she got back to Fairshore.
