Blood & Honey (Race Games 1) - Page 48

“It could be, but more than likely it’ll be shallow since it’s an illusion. However, it will take them out of the race despite the depth.”

“Perfect.” Danica grinned. “We just have to get them into the water.”

Danica gunned the engine and took off faster, gaining speed on the dragons. She focused on the fire, swerving when they spit more at them, just narrowly avoiding the hot stream that still managed to increase the temperature in their car. The dragons ran over a trap and a wall shot up in the road before them, blocking the way.

“I’ve got it!” Arden announced, pressing the button for the rocket launcher again. Within three seconds, he was firing it and the wall shattered into tiny pieces. The second group of pillars behind it however, he didn’t have time to destroy.

Downshifting, Danica stomped on the clutch and pulled the e-brake, sending the car swerving sideways just quickly enough to correct her trajectory and slip between the large pillars.

Arden glanced over at her, his eyes heated. “If we weren’t fighting for our lives right now, I’d ravish you. That was the sexiest thing I’ve ever seen.”

Danica winked at him. “Hold on. You might not be saying that when you see what I’m about to do.”

His face fell and Phi chuckled behind him. “What are you about to do, little racer?” Arden grunted. When she didn’t answer, he growled, “Danica.”

Her grin widened and she glanced quickly over at him as she closed the distance between them and the dragons. “Would it be too soon to apologize in advance?”

Arden’s face tightened but Danica stomped on the gas, giving the car an extra boost to shoot forward.

“Everybody, hold on,” she ordered, and for once, the vampires both listened to her.
