Blood & Honey (Race Games 1) - Page 37

“What just happened?” Danica blinked, confused as to why everyone seemed so afraid. Theo was powerful in some sort of way, sure, but he didn’t feel like a threat. At least, not to her.

“Well,” Arden said, having to clear the gravel from his throat. “You just made a deal with the most powerful wizard this side of the equator. And then he drank kelpie tears like they were nothing more than bitters despite it being potent enough to kill every creature in here.”

Danica’s face drained. “I did what?”

Phi stared after the wizard, his face purely flabbergasted. “You made a friend that should have been impossible to make.” Phi met her eyes. “And you convinced him to sponsor us.”

“Can we trust him?”

“Theo St. Munic is a dangerous enemy,” Phi replied. “But he’s a loyal ally. He will not harm us, because we’re far more entertaining alive.”

“That and he apparently has the hots for you,” Arden added. “Hell, I wouldn’t have blamed you if you took the man up on the date. Look at him.” Arden stared in the direction Theo had disappeared in. “Hell, is it too late to ask him on a date myself?”

Danica snorted. “Let’s get out of here before my mouth gets us in anymore trouble.”

“I agree,” Phi answered, turning to lead them out of the ballroom.

“I was being serious,” Arden argued. “Think he’d be down for a group thing?”

When Danica started to giggle, the light flickered in Arden and Phi’s eyes. When they left the ball, every single eye was on the trio that seemed to glow with their connection.

It was dangerous, but suddenly, Danica didn’t even care about an arrogant king or his determination to keep his power. After all, he wouldn’t be king for much longer.
