Redemption (Shattered Souls MC 2) - Page 29

I hear Zane walk out of the bathroom and I immediately drop my hand. I don’t want him asking about it. The door opens and he comes in with boxers on, wet hair, and a grin.

“I can’t believe you’re still awake,” he says, climbing into bed.

I move to lay my head on his chest, and he wraps his strong arms around me. “I’m not tired.”

He kisses

the top of my head and sighs. “I’m exhausted, but not sure I’ll get much sleep. Kace and I need to be out of here pretty early.”

I rest my chin on his chest and look at him. His features are so soft right now, but there is so much tension by his eyes. I reach up and run my fingers down his rough cheek. “I know you can’t tell me about club business, but what can you tell me?”

“Still no sign of your father, still no idea about the notes, still no leads on why your club…” I narrow my eyes and he corrects himself. “Sorry, your father’s club, threatened our innocents. Nothing adds up and there are more questions than answers.”

I’m not sure how to help when it’s the same problems we’ve been facing. It does make me nervous that my father can’t be found. He’s never hidden before and that makes me think he’s got something horrible planned. There is nothing he won’t do to get his revenge. And I’m certain killing Zane or me, I don’t think he even cares which one anymore, would be the best revenge he could seek. It ensures that Zane or I suffer the loss forever.

“Do you want to run some of your ideas by me? Maybe I can put them in prospective,” I offer.

He runs his fingers through my hair, causing a different chill from when he first got home. It feels so good, so relaxing. “Why do you think your father sent the notes?”

“Because logically, who else could it be? He may not have personally placed them or destroyed my house or my mom’s pictures, but it’s the kind of power he likes to have. To be the one feared, the one in charge, the feel of power. Why?” I’m certain he’s behind the notes. There’s no one else that would be so vicious and cruel.

“What you’re saying makes sense, maybe I’m just overthinking shit,” he says.

“Break it down for me, Z,” I push.

He grabs my hand and kisses my palm, holding it against his chest. His eyes search mine, pleading for me to give him the answers I don’t have. “If your father is behind the notes, that means he’s in contact with the Vegas Kings. Who would he talk to?”

“Dom,” I say, without a second thought.

“Where would Dom be?” he asks.

I lift my head, my eyes bouncing between his. “You think he’s with my father?”

His muscular shoulders lift and he looks up at the ceiling. “He must be, because he’s nowhere else to be found.”

So, they are looking for Dom too. They want answers and he has them, smart. “My father doesn’t do much of anything without Dom, but I shot that asshole twice. My piece of shit father would not want the responsibility of looking after him. I still think he’s in New York and I think Dom is somewhere here, laying low.”

He still doesn’t look at me but speaks toward the ceiling. “Who would be in charge if Dom wasn’t around?”

“Sal, but I killed him,” I say. He finally locks his eyes with mine and regret passes through them. “Thomas, he’d be the one now. He’s an arrogant prick though. If you want to find answers, he won’t be hard to find. He thinks he’s untouchable. Probably walking around holding his dick, loving the power he feels he has. I would never tell you guys what to do, but walking into Club Kingsley, might be a good start.”

He gives me a small grin and reaches over to turn out the light. “Thanks, babe. Get some sleep,” he says, tightening his hold on me.

My last thoughts are of Club Kingsley going up in flames.

Kace and I left my house around seven this morning. I wanted to drive by Dom’s place again and check out any other places I could think of that he would be. When Harper said she doesn’t think he’d be with Kingsley, it just added more to my shoulders. They are ten steps ahead of us and we are truly looking like a bunch of pussies chasing our tails. So, when I told Brooks I thought we all needed to talk, he was less than thrilled. Which I expected, but I don’t give a shit. I need to start getting answers, because I feel like I’m stuck in quicksand that is dragging me under. The need for answers is my only way out.

“We are just waiting on Porter,” Brooks says, lighting a cigarette.

“While we wait, Nora wants to do dinner tomorrow for everyone. Be at our place around seven,” Enzo says.

I look between him and Brooks. No one ever does dinner but Gloria. As soon as I think about it, the realization hits me. Enzo is questioning Brooks’ loyalty, fuck.

No one says anything about it, we just move on. Brooks has his hands clenched on the table, his cigarette burning away in the ashtray. He’s pissed.
