Hunt - Page 79

“What kind of dumb shit is that, Cain? We’re not twins.”

“I’m compromising.”

“I’m not wearing cuffs around some bitch that’s flirting with you.”

He studied me with an odd expression. “So. . .you’re jealous?”

“What?” I blinked. “No. I’m just saying what I’m not having.”

He turned around, shut off the shower, and left. “You’re a little jealous.”

“I’m not.” I followed him out.

He picked up a towel and handed it to me. “I like it.”

“I’m not jealous.” I took the towel. “I’m just on guard. I don’t trust her.”

“Tell me more.” He grabbed his own towel and dried off.

“Pandora’s boss is dead. She’s supposed to be worried but she won’t say anything to anyone but you. Sure, she may see you as the boss of the group, but there are layers to fear. If she were truly scared she would have blurted shit to Donut Fucker, but she didn’t.”

He considered it. “So, you don’t think she’s scared?”

“Not at all. She’s waiting for the boss to come down. You. And the only reason someone wants to speak to the boss is because they have a proposition.”

“Interesting.”

I dried myself off. “I want to know what her play is because she’s about to make some sort of move and you’re part of the plan.”

“Pandora told Griff that she knew about our job.”

I leaned my head to the side. “Why would she know about it? Is her job more than making donuts?”

“I’ve had some hints that Johnny Cupcakes was fucking her. However, no clear proof.”

“Was that why you never flirted back with her?”

“I didn’t flirt with her because I wasn’t interested.” He grinned. “You’re a tiny bit jealous—”

“I’m not. However, something is up with her.”

“You really think so?”

“She wants to offer you something and it will be more than her panties.”

“What do you think it will be?”

I wrapped the towel around me and walked off. “People do things for only a few reasons—revenge, love, or money.”

He called after me. “Then, get dressed.”

I glanced over my shoulder. “Am I going downstairs?”

“You are.” He returned to frowning.

I glared at him. “I am not going down there in handcuffs.”

“Your wrists will be free due to company.”

I took that as a small victory.

His expression shifted to violence. “If you run, Phoenix. . .”

There was no need for him to finish. I could hear the sharpened threats.

I swallowed. “I won’t.”

“Then, let’s go see what Pandora has to say. Griff said that they’ll be by the pool.”

Chapter 22

The Birth of Venus

CAIN

I

didn’t like the idea of having Phoenix outside without handcuffs. Last time I did that, I’d been naked, covered in mud, and screaming her name in the rain over and over.

We headed down the long hallway outlined in gods.

I glanced Phoenix’s way.

Her long black hair was pulled up in a simple pony tail that put her gorgeous face on display. The style accented those beautiful brown eyes.

Well. . .she can’t run in those sexy heels.

Her red shoes had heels and were made of a satiny material. The surface was the color of red wine, nearly the same color as her lips. Embroidered white flowers covered the upper sides of the shoes. The heels clicked and clacked on the marble.

Her blue jeans fit her wonderfully, hugging her hips and big ass.

Her red shirt matched the heels. The fabric was soft and form fitting, showing off the brown fullness of her cleavage. The new white bandage peeked out from the top of the shirt. I was almost mad her scars weren’t healed yet. It was time everyone saw who Phoenix belonged to and who they would have to deal with if they came around her.

Had I still been Cole, I would have looked away. It would have been a sin to let my gaze enjoy those curves so much. Especially when she had the body of an angel that had just fallen to earth and was desperately ready to be fucked.

We made it to the stairs. I let her go ahead of me, enjoying the side-to-side delicious movement of her ass.

She smelled so damn good. The scent of lemon, roses, and blueberry mixed with her natural fragrance.

The entire combination made me want to turn her around, march her back to our bedroom, and fuck her.

My dick jerked in my pants.

I also wasn’t happy that my brothers would get to see her looking so sexy. She was definitely a beautiful woman with good style. I would have to get used to men watching her, the more we explored our relationship.

We hit the first floor and rounded the corner.

Up ahead, heavy metal music echoed off the walls. Feminine laughter rose over the notes.

Phoenix is right. Pandora doesn’t seem scared that Johnny is dead.

I grabbed Phoenix’s hand and held on to her soft fingers.

The closer we got, the more I could hear the music better. The bass line was strong and the guitar was thick and angry. More feminine laughter sounded.
