Hunt - Page 51

“Tomorrow night.”

I nodded. “When do you want the job to go down?”

“I’m not sure yet.” Johnny rubbed his head. “Go over the information and let’s figure it out. Like I said before, the owner is a smart bastard. We must be careful about this.”

I eyed him. “How dangerous is this guy?”

“Don’t worry about any of that.” He waved his hand at me. “It’s an in and out job, if done properly. I’ve got all the details.”

I frowned.

“Come on, Cain. Remember the deal. You get the team. I’ll get the resources. You execute. I wash the money.”

“Who owns the club, Johnny?”

“Does it matter when your brothers and you get twenty million?”

“I like that price.” Griff munched on a new glazed donut next to me.

“Any heat that could come your way, I’ll handle it.” Johnny made a holy cross in front of him. “Swear to God.”

I gave him skeptical look. “Who owns the club?”

“Dimitri Ivanov.”

I set the boxes down. “Forget about it. I told you I’m not messing with anything that deals with the Syndicate.”

“Hey. Hey.” Johnny grabbed the boxes and handed them back to me. “Take everything. Look it over and just hear my spiel tomorrow.”

“We can check it out.” Griff licked his fingers. “It’s twenty mill, Cain.”

Johnny smiled. “Listen to your brother.”

I stared at the boxes and didn’t take them.

“All you think about is what you will do with those millions. Leave the Syndicate to me.”

My frown deepened.

“New women requires more money. I’ve got two which means lots of money. When I get this payoff however. . .I’ll be taking my sweet cupcake with me and we’ll be off on an adventure.”

“And your wife?”

“She’ll be left with a large stash that I’ve been saving up for her and the kids. Due to her loyalty, I can never leave her broke.” He gestured at the boxes. “Think about it, Cain. I need this payoff to be free. Perhaps, this will help you be free too.”

I took the boxes. “The answer will probably be no.”

“I get it.” Johnny shrugged. “But you have to hear the spiel and check the place first. Have I ever led you wrong?”

“No.”

“I sent you to many clubs in Glory and outside of it. Did you ever get caught or deal with any shit?”

“No.”

“I get you weapons for half price. Any heat ever come your way? Or a gun ever back fire?”

“Not one.” Griff grabbed another donut.

“Exactly.” Johnny grinned. “Trust me.”

At that moment, Pandora came in. “Johnny, Leo is here. I’m done with the donuts. I’m leaving for yoga.”

“Okay. Okay.” Johnny waved her along and turned back to me. “Are you ready for our big adventure?”

“I’ll listen to your spiel and check out the club. That’s it.”

Johnny chuckled. “I’ll take that for now.”

“West will text you the address to the place we’re staying at.” I headed off.

Chapter 14

Rich People Shit

PHOENIX

I

woke up to soft nudging on my shoulder.

Yawning, I kept my eyes closed, not wanting to leave the comfort of sleep.

Gentle fingers brushed my cheek and then skittered along my eyebrows. Then, soft lips touched my forehead.

My body warmed.

Cain’s rich, deep voice sounded. “We’re here, Phoenix.”

The delicate scent of his cologne tickled my nose.

Blinking away the haze, I opened my eyes. My vision adjusted to the light.

His handsome face came into view. It wasn’t fair that the psycho was good-looking.

Silent, I watched him.

He traced his index finger along my cheekbone, then slipped it down my jaw, and along my neck, stopping at my shoulder. His hand was like a caress that warmed me from inside out. It was hard not to melt. His hands were made of fire, and I was the fuel. Plus, his touch was so tender, instantly I felt safe and protected.

Don’t forget that he’s dangerous. Not to mention fucking crazy.

He brought his hand back up and cupped my chin. “I could carry you if you want me to?”

“No.” I moved back from his fingers and put Dr. Fuzzy between us. “I can walk myself.”

“Okay.” For some reason, he grinned. “I already put your bags in the house, but I kept Dr. Fuzzy with you.”

Yeah. That’s right. Where are we now?

I turned my view to the front of the car and gasped.

A massive house stood before me, towering above me like a castle would. This was the sort of place that I dreamed about. A mini-mansion, in every sense of the word. It was a combination of stone and wood. Bright yellow with white trim. Two stories and steep gables.

So taken back, I sat there, unable to move.

Uh. . .what are we doing here?

Cain studied me with concern. “Are you sure you don’t want me to carry you out?”

“No.” I tightened my grip on Dr. Fuzzy, fumbled with the door, and then opened it. “I’ve got it.”

What the hell is going on? Whose house is this?
