Million-Dollar Consequences - Page 21

“Rose and Jack? How many times do people bring up Titanic to those two?”

“Often. Right before they turn into Celine Dion and belt out the movie’s theme song.”

She chuckled, her shoulders relaxing. How was he able to set her at ease so quickly?

“Feel better?”

Fingers resting on his chest, she soaked in his warmth. “I do.”

“Good.” He dropped a succinct kiss on her lips. “Bad news. I have to go back to set rather than drop to my knees and make a meal out of what’s beneath these tight jeans.”

Heat exploded in her chest and pooled in her belly. Then lower.

“That is bad news,” she said, her voice raspy.

“How about tonight? I can take my time, and we won’t have to rush. Or act for anyone.”

“Sounds wonderful.” She closed her arms around his neck, intending to kiss him one final time. Her cell phone picked that time to jangle from her purse.

“Duty calls?”

“Kendall Squire calls,” she said before she answered her phone with a “Hey, sis.”

“‘Hey, sis’? Did you steal my car?”

Isaac must’ve overheard. His lips curved.

“Borrowed,” Meghan corrected. “Calm down.”

“Where did you have to go in such a hurry that you couldn’t wait five minutes until I came back downstairs again?”

“Five minutes? I’ve stayed with you long enough to know that you and Max take longer than five minutes.”

Silence. Meghan could practically hear Kendall blushing, which was oddly satisfying. Isaac covered his mouth to suppress a laugh.

“I wanted to make sure you were safe,” Kendall stated, diplomatic now.

“She’s safe,” Isaac said into the phone, his voice hushed and accidentally seductive.

“When do you need your car back?” Meghan slid his hair away from his forehead. She liked touching him. She liked that she could.

“I don’t need it right away.”

“In that case, I’ll keep it awhile longer. Isaac’s due on set and I want to watch. We have plans later, and I’d rather not ask him to pick me up at your house if you don’t need the car.”

Her sister’s lack of response was like a presence in the room. Meghan would bet Kendall was worried about more than her vehicle. If Ken had any idea about the Case of the Missing Condom, she’d really have something to fret about.

“Well, be safe.”

Toolate.

“I’ll see you tonight,” Kendall said.

“Do I have a curfew now?”

“Of course not,” her sister huffed, sounding slightly embarrassed. “Just...tell Isaac to behave himself.”

“No promises,” Meghan said, her eyes on the smirking actor.

“Just...text me your whereabouts so I don’t have to file a missing person’s report.” Kendall’s exasperated sigh was interrupted by Max’s low murmuring. Meghan couldn’t be sure, but he sounded disapproving.

She ended the call and blew out a sigh of her own. “Will my sister ever see me as my own person?”

Isaac clasped her hand. “Don’t be so hard on her. You’d miss it if she wasn’t hovering. Trust me on that. Ready to go to the set?”

“If it’s all right.”

“I’m the star of the show. They can’t tell me no.”

She’d bet. She hadn’t succeeded in turning him down yet.
