“It’s my company. That means I make the rules. If I want to fuck you on my desk with the city as my audience, I’ll do it because I can.”

She closed her eyes and exhaled, cuddling in close. A wave of protectiveness washed over him. He felt content, satisfied, and that was something that had evaded him for decades. His family was loveless, so he wasn’t even sure he was capable of being a good husband or father, but he knew now, without a doubt, that it was possible.

Rose’s alarm went off. She reached over to the nightside table and grabbed her phone. “You have a meeting Thursday at eight. A little late for a meeting,” she said.

“It’s not. It’s a charitable dinner and auction. There’ll be dancing, mingling, and rubbing elbows.”

When she didn’t say anything afterward, he nudged her to get her attention.

“You’ll have to get a dress to turn heads.”

“Oh, right, it’s still business. You’ll need your PA.”

“No, I need a date. I need my woman by my side.”

She bit her lip to hide a smile. “Are you sure about that? I know what those kinds of events look like. I wouldn’t want you to lose connections because of me.”

Yeah, there were a lot of backward men from old money, but Darius didn’t give a shit. His father was one of them, and he’d cut that bastard off years ago. This was his life, and now that life included Rose. No way in hell did he plan to hide her like some kind of dirty secret. He was proud and couldn’t stand the thought of her feeling inadequate because of his circle.

“Things are changing. You’ll see. They’re not as bad as they used to be. Besides, my eyes will only be on you. Don’t worry about what other people think. I don’t.”

“I know you don’t.” She traced a finger along his jaw. “That’s what I love about you.”

She had no idea just how much power he had. There was nothing he wouldn’t do to make their relationship work. No one he wouldn’t destroy for stepping between them.

“Don’t wear any panties. I want to fuck you in the men’s room.”

“The bathroom?”

“When you see it, you’ll understand. Those events go all out, including the location,” he said.

“Whatever you say, Mr. Blackwood.”

Chapter Eight

“You know, I can pick out my own dress.”

“I know, but I don’t want to give you the chance to do anything without me.” Darius led her toward the changing rooms. One of the assistants had already pointed them in this direction, and Darius had demanded some evening gowns to be brought to her. He was always so bossy. She had never realized how much he was. It was kind of funny how he went from a normal guy to the boss within seconds. And it turned her on.

Being around him was a heady experience, a ride Rose never anticipated enjoying so much. Ever since he’d taken her virginity just last night, he’d been by her side. They were due to go to a charity dinner tomorrow, giving her exactly one day to find the perfect outfit. She was so thankful he’d offered to come because the truth was that she didn’t know the first thing about fashion.

All her life, she’d lived out of secondhand stores. It was only since becoming his PA that she’d experienced shopping in designer boutiques, and she didn’t feel like she belonged there at all. But she knew the event was important. It was more than appearances, it was making connections and backroom deals. He needed her to play her role to perfection.

Darius wrapped his arms around her, pulling her in close.

She dropped her bag on the floor and ran her hands up his chest, circling them around his neck, feeling him against her, and wanting him so badly.

“We’ve got to stop this,” she said.

“Why?”

“That assistant is going to be back soon. What will she think?”

“If she knows what’s good for her, she’ll knock and leave me to enjoy you.” He ran his hands down her back. “I never thought I’d see the day where I got fed up of fucking working, but watching you today, I wish I didn’t run a multibillion-dollar company.”

She tilted her head back to look at him and smiled. “Really?”

“Yeah, I would give anything to just enjoy life with you. No worries.”

“Darius, I hate to break this to you, but if you didn’t own a billion-dollar company, you’d still have to work. We’d still be apart. It would most likely be worse because we’d be bickering over money.”

He gripped her ass tightly and she gasped.

“I have a present for you.”

“What is it?”

He reached under his chair and passed her a large box with a blue bow. She smiled and began opening it, pulling the tissue aside. It was a purse, one of the most beautiful and expensive she’d ever seen.
