CHAPTER THREE

Graham

“GRAHAM LENNON, just what were you thinking!” Savannah scolded me as she restitched my wounds, her eyebrows furrowed in concentration, “I know you think that you are some kind of hotshot who can just get away with getting hurt, but this is the real world, dummy! You could’ve been easily killed, and shouldn’t have just let some random chick stitch your wounds whether or not she is in the nursing field! These wounds could easily get infected.”

I rolled my eyes, having listened to her nagging for the past thirty minutes, “I’m fine, Savannah, I would hardly call any of this serious. I was just fine.”

“What would you have done if she were a part of their group!” She hissed, pinching my side not so nice either, but I didn’t react, “just cause she has a pretty face doesn’t mean you go and spend the night with her and expect her to tend to your wounds! You needed a real doctor for this!”

“I didn’t spend the night with her.” I muttered, wishing she would shut up with her lectures already, “she was kind enough to bring me into her home, a bloodied man who easily could’ve been a bad guy, and she didn’t turn me away. Her cheeks flush red when I catch her looking at my body. I find her interesting.”

Savannah scoffed, rolling her eyes, “you’re just like my brother, Graham, and that’s not a compliment. A careless fling is going to get you into trouble one day, and I’m not going to be able to protect you when you get hurt.”

“A careless fling?” I mused, pulling out my phone, wondering when she was going to text me, “I wouldn’t call it a careless fling because we didn’t even do anything yet. I want to get to know her, that much I do know. Who knows, maybe I’ll make her my lady.”

Savannah froze, gawking up at me, “your lady? You’d want that with someone you don’t know?”

“I want to get to know her.” I admitted, shaking my head, “I can easily see her as my lady, and as my little. You know I’ve been searching for that special one, Savannah. And with her… I just see it.”

“Someone you just met.” Savannah said bitterly, her voice cracking ever so slightly, “someone who might not want what you do…”

I knew instantly where she was going with this. I won’t make some excuse and say I was oblivious, but I knew that she has had feelings for me for quite some time now. I have never really turned her down, not wanting to make things awkward, but I’ve also never led her on. I’ve not once ever shown any interest in her like that, and I hoped that she had noticed it as well.

Maybe I was wrong.

“I’m sorry, Savannah,” I told her, being quite honest, “but there’s no way I can ever return those feelings for you. Even if I wasn’t interested in this girl, I only see you as a little sister. That would be a little weird.”

Her jaw clenched, unable to meet my eyes, “how would you know unless you try?”

I sighed, ruffling her hair, knowing how much she hated it, but I wanted the tensions to die down, “I do know even without trying, Savannah, you’ll find that special someone one day. It’s just not going to be me.”

I thought this would make her back down, but I was seriously wrong as she shot to her feet, her hands balling into fists, “so what are you going to do, Graham? Are you going to tell her who you are? What kind of business you do? Do you honestly think that she will stick around knowing what kind of person you are? She’s going to run the minute she finds out, and you’ll be left there hurt.”

“I haven’t even fallen for her, Savannah,” I disagreed, pulling my shirt back on, knowing I was going to need some pain meds, “I’m not expecting her to just jump into her arms either, but all I know is that if she lets me, I want to try and see if I can make things work with her. How would I know unless I try?”

I was going to get off of my seat, but I was stunned when she leaned in, forcibly pressing her lips against mine. Feeling the anger raging through my body, I pushed her away, feeling her stumble back, but I didn’t push her hard enough to make her fall. I shot to my feet, glaring down at her as I towered above her, seeing her shrink back in fear.

“What the hell was that, Savannah?” I snapped, watching her take a step back away from me, knowing what happens when you piss me off, “why did you kiss me? That was wrong of you!”

Savannah bowed her head, looking quite ashamed, “I thought that if I kissed you, maybe you would feel the same way that I do. I… I realize now that it was wrong of me to do. I’m sorry!”

“Get out of my sight,” I growled, turning away from her, afraid of what I might do.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw her reach out to me, “Graham, please…”

“GO!” I yelled, feeling furious.

I didn’t even feel bad as she rushed out of the room, sobbing into her hand. Not even a moment later, her brother and my right-hand man, Brigham, walked into the room, looking a little confused. I know he never liked to see his sister cry, but he knew I wouldn’t do it for no reason.

“What was that all about?” Brigham asked me, crossing his arms over his chest, “did she get you all stitched up?”

“She did.” I muttered, crossing my arms over my chest, “but not without kissing me even though she knew how I felt.”
