ReBoot (MAC Security 4) - Page 116

I chuckle, letting her pull me over the gravel and to the warehouse. Everyone is waiting when we get there, Kay and Kitty standing by the door, smiling at us as we walk in.

“Told you she stayed the night,” Kay whispers, although it’s not really a whisper because we can both hear her.

All the other guys are looking at us with looks that I can’t decipher, but it’s the way Ty shakes his head and silently communicates that she can’t be here that has my back straightening.

I know better than anyone that she can’t know what’s going on, but the way he acts toward her riles me up. He’s still judging her on her past and not on who she is.

Lexi must be able to sense the change because she squeezes my hand and then clears her throat. “Kay? Do you think you could drop me home if it’s not too much trouble?”

“I’ve got to head to the shops, you can come with if you want and then I can take you home.”

I give Kay a grateful smile as Lexi nods before I turn to face her, pulling her closer and pressing my lips against hers. “Go back to the cabin, have a shower and chill out for a while.”

Her eyes flit behind me, no doubt toward Ty. “Are you sure?”

I raise a brow. “Of course I’m sure. Go and chill out and I’m sure Kay will come and get you when she’s ready to leave.”

My eyes skirt to Kay and when she nods in agreement, I pull Lexi outside, pushing her against the wall.

I watch her hazel eyes for a beat before I slam my lips down onto hers, relishing in the feel of her against me and locking all of the sensations away.

I still don’t know what this job will be, what we’ll do or how long I’ll be gone.

We pull up outside of the warehouse, West in the back of my car and Seb sitting beside me. The atmosphere is a mixture of apprehension, nerves, and excitement. This is the day that we could put him away for good. The only problem? We have no idea what it is we’re doing or where. We have an idea that it will be with the art gallery, but beyond that, we haven’t got a clue because he’s kept us all well and truly in the dark.

The “âme perdue” has already been delivered, yet he hasn’t made his move.

“You ready for this?” Seb asks, his hand clutching the door handle, his face turned toward me.

My eyes flit between his before my gaze turns to the rearview mirror, connecting with West’s eyes. “Yep.” I push open the door, sliding out of the car and stretching my arms above my head.

I walk around the back of my car, tapping my palm on the trunk. Before I left the compound, I filled it with anything that I thought I may need. My laptop, my adapted surveillance equipment, weapons… you name it, I have it.

No sooner are we all out of the car does the door to the warehouse swing open and four people dressed in head-to-toe black walk toward us.

We all straighten up, feeling an impending threat.

“What’s this—”

“Boss said to put you in the van,” one of them says, tilting his head to a black van behind us.

My stomach dips, feeling a bad vibe about this whole thing already, but when I open my mouth to say something, I’m pushed from behind.

This isn’t going how I thought it would. My hand clenches into a fist, knowing that I won’t be able to use anything that I brought with us.

I’m pushed again, now only a step from the van as the doors slide open before I get a final push and I fall into it, my hands scraping on the rough surface.

“Hey! Watch it, my hands are my money makers.” I smirk, turning around and rolling my eyes, trying to put on a front when inside I’m screaming that this isn’t what was meant to happen.

“Shut it,” he barks, his deep-blue eyes narrowing in on me.

I crawl forward, making room for Seb and West. They climb in and the door banging shut has us basked in darkness.

“I don’t like this one bit,” I murmur. “Something feels off.”

?

?You can say that again,” West replies.
