The Love Boat - Page 35

I know in my heart that this love is going to last forever. And our forever starts with me moving in with Nate. He’s carrying a box of my things up to his home, well mansion really, and I can’t help staring at it in awe. I knew he was rich, after all, he won the lottery and now owns a cruise ship line. But I guess I was never expecting something as grand as this.

It’s beautiful, and I feel spoiled by getting to live here. I haven’t worked for this lifestyle, but it’s been thrust upon me anyway and that makes me very lucky.

“Welcome home, baby,” Nate whispers in my ear, sending a shiver down my spine, as he unlocks the front door for me.

I step inside tentatively, intimidated by the size of it. It feels like I could get lost in this place. But I can picture our kids running around, having fun in the endless rooms, and enjoying their childhood. It warms my heart to think about it. As an only child, I never got to have that kind of experience. But I have plans for a lot of children, so I know none of them will ever be alone.

“What do you think?” Nate asks.

All I can do is smile at him.

“I think this place is beautiful. I can’t believe this is going to be my home,” I say in wonder.

“I already told you I’d treat you like a queen, so I’m starting by giving you a palace.”

I giggle and Nate puts down the box of my things to wrap his arms around me. I sink into his embrace, feeling so safe in his big strong arms. I can’t believe we’re finally getting to do all of the things we wanted to do together. It’s been three weeks since our adventure together began, but it feels like much longer. It feels like we’ve always known one another, and that we’ve been waiting forever to get our journey started. Now, we’re living together, a baby is growing inside me, and there are so many other exciting things to come…

Like getting married.

The thought has crossed my mind many times since I met him. I know for sure that I want Nate to be my husband. I know that I want that as soon as possible. But up until now, he’s made no mention of marriage. Maybe he thinks it’s too soon, but that seems odd to me, considering that we’ve been moving so fast since the start. Marriage doesn’t seem like such a leap when we’re already living together and spending every waking hour together.

But I know that I should be patient. It’s silly of me to assume that we’re going to get married right away. After all, who gets married after three weeks of knowing one another? Nobody, right?

That’s what I tell myself, anyway. I’m trying to rationalize it so that I don’t go completely crazy. But it doesn’t stop me from wanting more. It doesn’t stop me from wishing he’d get down on one knee and ask me to be his wife…

Because I already know that I’d say yes. Of course, I would. I wouldn’t even have to think about it. I’ve known from the day that we met that I wanted to be his wife. But it’s so soon. It doesn’t mean that he doesn’t want to do it eventually.

He might not be ready for it yet, and I should be fine with that. It’s not like we’re short on time. We should just savor the moment we’re in. And here I am, enjoying the fact that we’re moving in together.

But all the while, I’m wishing there was a ring on my finger.

“Why don’t you go and explore while I bring in your things?” Nate says in my ear as he holds me close to his chest. “I know how much you love to explore, it’s like a mini adventure.”

“It’s a pretty big adventure. This place is huge!” I exclaim. He laughs and kisses the top of my head.

“Well then, you’d better get going? Lots to see.”

He disappears back outside and I allow myself a second to drink in my surroundings. This place really is something special. I begin to walk aimlessly through the house. Each room seems more spectacular than the last. There are so many bedrooms left unused that I don’t think we’ll ever fill them all. Then there are rooms we definitely don’t need, but I find myself looking forward to using…the theater room, the gym, the sun lounge…it’s all so beautiful that it feels like it can’t be a part of my life. But then again, life has been pretty damn dreamy as of late.

By the time I’ve explored every room, Nate has brought all of my things inside and it’s getting dark outside. He takes my hand as I reach the bottom of the stairs.
