The Woodland Packs - Page 215

I’d never recover from this if Celeste and her baby died.

Tayte was suddenly next to me and I was no longer alone with my feelings. Instead, my need to hurt him was pure and nasty, and bigger than me.

I looked at him and spat, “If she dies, you’re dead.”

Tayte nodded. “I know. Because I won’t live without her.”

His grief came at me in a wave. I couldn’t handle it. What he carried was too much for me now.

Grief and regret.

“No.”

I let go of my human self and shifted back to my wolf, and I started running home.

I needed my clothes. I needed my car and I needed my mate.

Our baby’s life hung in the balance, and my family was in tatters.

What the hell could happen next?

Chapter 10.

Celeste.

Waking up was harder than it had ever been.

What was wrong with my eyes?

My arms?

My body?

I licked my lips and swallowed the cotton wool feeling in my mouth.

“Celeste? Hello?”

I knew that voice.

It was Dane, I was sure of it.

I blinked, and blinked, and blinked, until my eyes finally opened.

Bright lights shined down on me.

“Where am I?”

Dane was there, gripping my hand. “You’re at the hospital.”

Hospital? Why would I be at the hospital?

I reached for my belly with my free hand and it was gone.

My eyes popped open and I looked down on my now flat-ish stomach. “The baby… my baby? Where is it?”

Dane cupped my face and forced me to look at him.

“She’s out and she’s doing well. A little premature, and on oxygen in the ICU for a few more days, but she’s strong. Just like her mama.”
