The Woodland Packs - Page 62

I stood up and Taylor came barrelling back into the E.R.

“Claire! Claire.” He came straight over and grabbed me. Pain screamed through my body and I yelled out.

“Oh, fuck. Are you okay?”

“I… yeah. But I think I broke something.”

A wheelchair was pushed at me and I fell into it. “I need an x-ray, and some pain meds, I think.”

I let the nurse wheel me away and left Taylor in the E.R.

I tapped the nurse with my good hand. “Can you make sure the guys find me later on? They’ll be pestering you, I’m sure.”

“Who are the guys?” she asked.

I couldn’t help my smile. “My guys. Dexter, Taylor and Jay. You’ll know them when you see them, trust me.”

I’d been more accurate than I realised. My men made the nurses’ lives hell for the next few days as I was patched up, medicated and told to rest.

They wanted to visit constantly, and between Jack and myself, one of them was on the hospital grounds at all times.

“And don’t worry, we have Grayson’s pack guarding the hospital too, in shifts,” Dexter told me a few days later as I packed my bag to go home.

“That’s a bit overkill, don’t you think?”

My Alpha had been wracked with guilt for days over my injuries and I’d barely been able to calm him.

All three of them had been nothing but doting since the incident, and it was beginning to wear on me.

“Not at all,” he said as he puffed out his chest.

“Hey, Claire, I have your final blood test results, and you might want to check this out.”

Toma, one of the interns, handed me the sheet with a smile, her eyes flicking over to the massive Alpha standing by the window.

And then she left.

“What does she mean by that? Is something wrong?”

“No… I don’t think…. Oh…”

I was pregnant.

Already? How was that possible?

I folded the piece of paper and tucked it into the back pocket of my jeans. That was a conversation for later.

I wasn’t even ready to think about that yet.

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing,” I lied. “My iron’s low, so I’ll grab some supplements on the way out.”

That wasn’t entirely a lie. I did need iron supplements now. And folate too. And maybe a whole range of amino acids if I was growing one… or more babies, inside of me.

What did wolf shifters have anyway? I had no idea.
