The Woodland Packs - Page 23

I wanted to kiss her again, but did I dare?

She looked up and met my eyes, and suddenly I did dare. I reached over and grabbed her waist, pulling her back into my lap and pressing my lips to hers.

She gasped against my mouth, but didn’t move away.

I didn’t rush her, but kept my hands on her waist, though I wanted to explore her body more than anything. I waited and waited, and then I felt it. A softening of her body on mine as she melted towards me.

I gripped her waist tighter and slanted my head so that I could open her lips. She moaned and opened to me. I tasted her tongue with mine once again.

Claire’s hands crept up my arms until she was gripping my neck, dragging me into her. I couldn’t stand it any longer. I had to get closer.

I pulled at her scrubs, wanting to feel her skin. Needing to remove the barrier between us.

The front door banged loudly and Claire jumped. She moved to slide off my lap but I held her for a moment as I looked towards the entrance.

Dexter and Taylor glowered at me, the rage in their faces clear for the world to see.

Claire began to struggle in earnest and I let her go. She jumped to her feet and I stood up next to her, smiling at my pack.

“Claire has agreed to stay for a few days and get to know us.”

The black cloud hanging over Dex and Taylor’s heads disappeared instantly.

Taylor stepped forward. “Really? You’ll stay?”

I looked over at Claire, whose face looked torn with indecision as she bit her lip and didn’t speak.

“Claire, how about I show you around the house. Then we can go out for a bit. Meet the pack maybe, if you guys think it’ll be safe?”

I looked towards Dexter for guidance.

Our Alpha nodded. “Mom told me to bring her straight over, for a report on Dad more than anything, I think.”

Claire’s face changed, her professional persona slipping into place.

“Yes. I’d like to do that, if we can. I don’t have any other clothes though, and I suppose you guys have nothing my size?”

The hint of a joke and a smile made even Dexter grin.

“Ah no… although some of the older women may have some jeans and a jumper near your size.”

I assessed Claire’s figure for the first time. A twelve, maybe a fourteen. Perfect for pleasing all three of us.

“Yeah, I’m pretty sure my mom or even one of my aunties will have something for you.”

“Great. I’d like to speak to your mom, Dexter.”

She walked forward without fear and I made a mental note that the healer in her was a fierce, protective personality. And that would suit our pack well.

“Let’s go, then.”

Dexter shot me an angry look as he ushered her out the door and I had to hide the smile that naturally spread across my face.

I was the only one she’d kissed today so far… so what?

I was pretty sure by the end of this two days, kisses were not the only things we’d be sharing.
