D is for Deacon (Men of ALPHAbet Mountain) - Page 36

“I might have also gotten us a pizza, being delivered”—he looked at his watch— “about right when we get back to your place.”

“Well, then let’s go,” I said, running to my car. “Meet you there.”

I sped home and arrived just moments before Deacon’s truck and then the pizza delivery car showed up behind me. We took the pizza in, celebrated with several slices and at least half the bottle, and stumbled our way to the bed.

As I pressed my lips to his, tasting the sweet, smoky whiskey and the sharp acidic pizza sauce on his tongue, I tore at his clothes and wrapped my fingers around his cock before his pants were even off. I stroked him as he kissed my neck, pulling at my shirt until my breasts were exposed, nipples hard and perky in the cold bedroom.

I didn’t mind the cold. Our bodies were going to be plenty warm soon enough. I pulled the covers up and over him as he moved his kisses down my body and took off my panties with his teeth.

DEACON

I spent nearly the entire weekend at Rebecca’s, and it was heaven. Not only did we spend a great deal of it without clothes on, but it was also just nice to spend time with her talking and having fun.

After drinking enough to keep me from putting myself behind the wheel of a car for the night, I slept at her place, waking up later than usual on Monday morning. I had brought a duffel bag with a change of clothes, and as the light filtered into the bedroom through the window above the bed, my natural clock, delayed as it was, woke me up.

I checked my phone on the nightstand and saw it was nearly seven. I had to be at work in an hour or so, and it was a good twenty minutes away from Rebecca’s place. Grimacing at leaving her in the bed, I slid out of the covers and made my way to the living room to grab my bag. Then I went into the bathroom and started a shower.

About five minutes into letting the hot water clear the cobwebs, I heard the bathroom door open, and a moment later, a naked but still sleepy Rebecca got in. We held each other for a few moments before I lathered the soap together in my hands and then gently rubbed them across her body. It didn’t take long before she was awake, wrapping her leg around me and positioning herself for one last go.

What was an extra few minutes? I could handle being a little late.

When we finally got out of the shower, I got dressed and made a pot of coffee while Rebecca finished getting showered herself. When she came out of the bathroom, her hair wet and wearing a bathrobe, I handed her a mug and kissed her lips.

“I have to go to work now,” I said.

“Okay,” she said. “I’m going to lie back down for a bit, I think.”

“Text me,” I said.

She nodded, and I made my way for the door. She followed me and waved as I pulled away, and my chest clenched. It was all so domestic. And I loved it.

When I arrived at the office, Lauren’s desk was empty in the main area, but when I went back to my personal office, I found her hunched over my desk. I had left it rather messy, and she was looking through some papers. I leaned against the door and grinned, waiting on her to notice me. When she didn’t, I crossed my arms and cleared my throat.

Lauren froze and turned slowly, looking like a kid with her hand in the candy jar.

“Good morning,” she said.

The tone of voice was all I needed to know. She was doing a full turn from where she was the other day. When she ran out of my office, she was excited by the prospect of me dating her best friend, but somehow over the weekend, she had gone into protective-friend mode. I shouldn’t have been surprised. Lauren was a protective mama bear. Of course, she was going to look out for her best friend and try to make sure I wasn’t going to hurt her.

The subject of our age difference was clearly part of it. I knew that. But I also knew that Lauren knew me and knew me well. She knew I wouldn’t do anything to hurt Rebecca. Or at least I hoped she did.

“Morning,” I said. “Is there something I can help you find?”

“Actually, yes,” she said. “You had a contract signed on Friday? I can’t find it.”

“Oh. Yeah, it’s in the folder on your desk. I already filed it away.”

“You did?” she asked. “Well, damn, I was ready to be mad at you for that.”

She laughed, and I shook my head.
