His Next Trick - Page 20

“Yes,” I affirm. “I can have what you’re having, right?” I ask and he nods with an admiring look of his own.

“Make it two of the usual then, Rico,” he says quietly, turning his attention back to me now that we’re alone again.

Forgetting I even have it with me, my phone pings with a message. I ignore it, but Jett urges me to check it.

It’s Karlee.

She’s all, OMG, Jett Masters… get the story of the century, will you?

I politely set my phone to mute and tuck it away.

“Everything okay?” Jett asks, always mindful of my mood.

“Fine,” I practically squeak again. Having no intention of writing anything about him after this morning’s efforts.

I’d much rather have time with the man himself.

Jett quizzes me about my two jobs, about my apartment. About everything really.

He almost sounds like he wants to know everything about me as quickly as possible for some reason.

The food arrives getting me off the hook but once the waiter is gone he asks after my family, which suits me.

I can’t talk about something I don’t have.

But the meals, if that’s what I could call them…

I’ve never seen so much food on one plate and instantly regret ordering the same.

Apart from hating to waste, there’s no way I could afford to—

“I’ll finish whatever you can’t,” Jett chuckles to himself, enjoying his harmless joke.

“I need to eat. A lot,” he explains, digging in before I can even speak.

All his energy is focused on eating for a good few minutes before he comes up for air.

I pick at my huge spread, which is a whole buffet.

Everything from steak to chicken two different ways and about a dozen types of hot sides and a salad.

Platters more than plates. But as Jett promised, the food is excellent.

“Best I’ve ever had,” I say before he even asks, making him smile as we both share another connection.

“Save room for dinner,” he advises me. “And dessert after that,” he adds with a knowing look, winking at me.

My heart skips a beat. A familiar and welcome thrill courses through my belly, and down between my legs.

This is actually happening.

Karlee’s right.

Oh. My. God.

CHAPTER ELEVEN

Jett

Feeling better after some food, and helping Penelope finish hers, I suggest a little shopping trip to aid our digestion.

“I need to pick up a few things,” I explain after saying my goodbyes to Rico and his staff. Noting her reluctance and awkwardness anytime something is bought or needs paying for.

When I mention dessert after the dinner I have planned for tonight, I notice her expression change too. And not for the better.

“Would you prefer I wasn’t interested in you?” I ask her, once we’re back in the car. Our driver has gone off to stretch his legs by the looks, which suits me just fine.

I decided the word ‘interested’ doesn’t even begin to describe how I really feel about Penelope. It’s way beyond that.

I have to know, now. This feeling between us, it’s not my imagination.

It can’t be.

Her eyes slide down but I give her enough room to answer when she feels like it. But she stays silent.

“Too fast?” I venture. “Or just not interested?”

Her eyes rush to meet mine, and although I’m not hurt by her silence, I was kinda hoping for…

“I think you’re the most amazing person I’ve ever met,” she whispers, chewing at her lip as she thinks hard.

“But?” I ask. “Is it because of the age gap?”

Her head shakes in a violent no.

“No! I mean, no. You don’t look a day over thirty-five… Thirty,” she corrects herself, making me force a smile.

Thanks a lot.

“I mean… you’re huge and have the body… It’s…” she stammers, but I hold my hand up, smiling still.

“I get, I get it. I’m not repulsive,” I tell her.

Then what is it? I wonder.

Maybe she’s just an old fashioned girl who likes to take things slow.

Maybe spending the day with me, and dinner later might change all that.

But I can’t wait for dinner.

I want my dessert.

“Do you really want me?” Penelope asks in a low, quiet tone that cracks.

Her eyes are clear, and her body is trembling.

Breaking my train of thought and replacing it with something way better.

It’s all the encouragement I need.

And although she said to slow down, it’s like trying to tell a volcano to hold off on erupting.

I’m not sure who moves first, and I don’t care either.

In a second my mouth is over hers, my hand gripping her firm breasts, her nipples hard under my touch.

Her hands claw at my chest first, then slide down to what I want to give her most.

I groan in pleasure, finally feeling her hands on me and her body in mine.

Our tongues dance together as I devour her mouth as if it’s her sweet hole.

Her mewls of passion give way to true animal arousal and in less time than I’m sure it takes to say ‘taking things slow’, I have my hand between her legs. Her wetness is undeniable as I groan louder.
