Finding Faith (Red Hook 2) - Page 31

“I know.”

She sat up and remembered they were at the cabin. She planned on enjoying her mini-vacation. Once the baby was born it would be harder to go on vacation. “Give me ten minutes to freshen up.”

Adam left her alone to shower and get dressed. The shower energized her and she chose some stretch pants and a loose pink T-shirt.

Faith found Adam in the small kitchen, heating up some soup. He poured it in two bowls. “Come and sit down.”

She gave him a smile. The cabin was small with one bedroom, a bathroom, living room, and kitchen but it was nice and clean.

She grabbed a sandwich from the plate in the middle of the table placed by the window. “Thanks, Adam. After we eat can we go for a walk? I’d love to see the lake.”

“Do you fish?” he asked.

“I’ve never tried before. We lived in cities,” she admitted. “I might like it.”

She dug into the soup. It warmed her up. They kept the conversation light and casual.

Adam took her to the large lake. It was beautiful. She sat down on the bench near the lake. The fresh air was clean and crisp. It energized her and she felt better than she had in a long time.

Faith had a great time with Adam. He was fun, charming, and all the things she dreamed he would be in the beginning. Her heart wanted to embrace his about face and throw herself in his arms but her head warned her to not get her hopes up. Disappointment hurt and she had plenty of that in her life. She didn’t want anymore.

Adam held up a fish. He gave her a wide smile, looking proud. “Looks like dinner is on me tonight.”

Faith laughed and clapped her hands. “That’s great because my line is broken. It hasn’t moved.”

Adam laughed and ruffled her hair. “A likely excuse.”

“Well that’s my story and I’m sticking with it,” she told him. They stayed out for a while and she mostly soaked up the sun while Adam caught more fish.

They headed inside to cook and ate on the porch as the sun set. Faith didn’t want the weekend to end.

Chapter 17

“I had a great couple of days, Adam.” She had to give him that. She felt rested and calm and ready to face her busy life again. Adam had treated her like a cherished loved one, and she felt her hope growing. It was scary, but at the same time it felt good. They slept in each other’s arms at night and he kissed her every chance he got.

Adam had already packed the truck up, and he was locking up the cabin. “Me too. This was way better than coming alone. I hope we can come back again.”

She leaned into him and he immediately hugged her. She liked having the freedom to touch him freely now instead of pretending platonic friendship was just fine with her. “I’d like that.”

He kissed her cheek and then her lips. She opened her mouth and let him explore her mouth. She felt warm and tingly. She was going to miss his touch and his company when they got home.

“Damn, baby. How am I supposed to drive like this?”

Faith ran her hands up his chest. “It’s all your fault. I wanted to have sex, but you were being all gentlemanly and stuff.”

He muttered stupid me under his breath. He took a deep breath and let it out. “I wanted to show you it’s not just physical desire I feel for you, Faith. I want to know everything about you and I want to make you happy.”

She smiled. His words broke down the wall around her heart. “You have, Adam. I feel—”

She couldn’t think of one word to explain how happy she felt inside. She had hope things could work out for them. Her doubts were fading quickly. It was a terrifying feeling, but she loved this man. Reaching out and believing he was being for real this time wasn’t easy.

“Happy? Loved?”

She nodded. It was true. “Yes.”

He gave her a satisfied smile and helped her in the truck. The ride home was spent in a relaxing, comfortable silence.

Adam insisted on carrying her bag inside even though she told him it wasn’t heavy. He set it down in the living room. She didn’t want him to leave her all alone. She had gotten used to his company.
