Claimed By The Best Man - Page 25

If he knew I was a virgin, he might’ve said so.

It would’ve saved me a lot of anxiety and we may have gotten this kind of fun going a lot sooner.

What a problem to have.

Wishing I’d submitted myself to his desires yesterday instead of today…boohoo.

At first, his voice is soothing like heavy rain after a thunderstorm.

But once it clicks who he’s on the phone with, I fully wake with a start, covering myself with the bedsheets as if we’ve been found out.

But she’s not here.

He’s just talking to my mom on the phone.

The red glow of Reeve’s bedside alarm clock tells me it’s past eleven, so my mom’s naturally wondering where I am.

“She was just worn out after the rehearsal… Plus I uh… I figured you and Rhys might’ve appreciated some alone time,” I hear him say, creeping down the large staircase. Surprised when it doesn’t make a sound.

Everything about the whole place is like the man who owns it.

Solid.

There are no loose boards or cracked walls in Reeve’s house.

It looks like it could last a thousand years.

“…I know, I know,” he continues, sounding calm. In control. “Well, she’s welcome to stay the nigh—” Reeve says, catching my eye and motioning me over to him on a giant leather couch in what I guess must be his living room.

A room about the size of our whole house.

“…Alright then. I understand. No, no. It’s fine Clara. I’ll drop her home within the hour… Okay, bye.”

His last words make me pout, but he shrugs his shoulders before enveloping me in his arms from behind.

His big hands cup my breasts as he pulls me closer to him.

“Sorry puppet, but your mom’s worried sick. They thought you’d gone missing or something,” he says, the edge of his mouth creasing in resignation.

“But I wanna stay here. With you,” I grumble, not even minding I sound five.

I have just woken up.

Plus, I really, really wanna be with Reeve right now.

And his house.

Our place has nothing on his.

He breathes out loud through his nose like he’s thinking. But he’s not. He’s just gonna do what a good Marine does and follow instructions.

Get me home safe and sound.

And then what?

“It’s just better if we keep everything low-key for now,” he explains in a low voice. Making me feel like I need to look around and make sure no one else is listening, even though I know we’re completely alone.

“Just a few more days,” he adds with a smile. “Your mom says that she and Rhys smoothed things over, and it’s just as well you didn’t go home if you know what I mean?” he adds, making a face.

“Gross,” I moan, making a face of my own.

The thought of my mom doing it with anyone… Ugh! It makes me shudder.

“The wedding’s been moved up to Tuesday, with most guests saying they can still come if the ceremony is in the evening instead of the afternoon,” he says with feigned interest.

Basically just repeating everything my mom’s told him for my benefit.

Even though I know she’ll tell me all this again once I get home.

Except for the whole her and Rhys making up part, I hope. Ew.

I feel confused though.

Why wouldn’t Reeve mind me going home so soon, after everything we just did?

I thought he’d at least have fought a little harder for me to stay at least one night.

Keep it low-key for now he said.

But still.

I glance at him sidelong and notice him trying not to smile for some reason.

“What else?” I ask with mock suspicion, trying not to smile.

Knowing full well that Reeve Bannon doesn’t do anything by accident.

He has a plan, I know he does.

“Well,” he beams, leaning back and resting a hand on my thigh as he looks me in the eyes. “I didn’t tell your mom, you can do that when you get home, but I think what you really need is a job.”

I feel my smile fade.

“A job?” I parrot back, not quite believing what I’m hearing. That was not what I was expecting him to say.

“Yup,” Reeve continues. “Starting tomorrow, you’ll be working directly under me. I’ll pick you up at eight. Okay, make it ten, seeing as we’ve already worked overtime tonight and it is gonna be a Sunday.”

“Working for you?” I squeak, sounding like I’m having trouble getting air as I try to work out just what he does have planned for me.

“Just play along,” he says cheerfully, tickling my ribs and making me giggle until he gets ahold of my breasts again, slowly massaging me to complete arousal in a split second.

My hands move on their own to his growing hardness under the track pants he’s changed into. A skin-tight T-shirt with the word ‘Marines’ on it makes me shiver as it registers how hard he is, and not just what’s in his pants.
