RUIN: Psychological Enemies-to-Lovers Thriller - Page 4

You’ll regret this later, sweetheart.

She yanked the gun from my hand and released my neck.

Coughing, I shot up to grab it back.

The point of the gun went to my forehead.

For the first time in a while, fear slammed into me.

Her eyes showed no panic. She appeared comfortable holding my gun as if the weapon had been hers all along. “You sure you want me to rip apart that handsome face of yours? It really would be a waste.”

“I’d like to keep my looks. It’s the best thing I’ve got going for me.” I raised my hands in defeat, but still, I was prepared to pounce on her at any opportunity.

Griff’s voice drifted from the darkness. “How are you getting out of here, pretty lady?”

“Why?” She picked up the bag and slung it over her shoulder. “You need a ride?”

I inched her way.

She shot me in the arm.

Fuck!

The bullet gnawed through my skin at an insane speed. I gritted my teeth but didn’t move. Blood dripped from the wound. I gripped my arm. The only good thing about her shot was that she only managed to hit the edge of my arm instead of the center where the whole limb could have detached.

Her voice held an edge. “That’s the only warning shot you’re going to get from me.”

I won’t let you leave with that bag. The twins need braces.

Aiming my way, she slowly walked to the edge of the stage and climbed off.

Soon as her bare feet hit the ground, I charged for her.

She shrieked and shot for my other arm.

Somehow, I dodged it.

Damn, she’s got good aim.

She raced away.

And chaos ensued. Everyone seized that moment to escape. People screamed as they scrambled over one another, turning over chairs, racing out of the club, and searching for an escape. More shots blared, probably West or Griff firing their guns or maybe even her.

Where are you?

I shoved people away.

A few feet ahead, she dashed off, blasting out the violet lamps on the ceiling. Shattered pieces of glass rained down.

The whole club turned dark.

Good move, but that won’t save you.

“Get back here!” I pushed running people out of the way, barely able to see a damn thing.

A white glow of light appeared on my side.

Squinting, Griff had his tiny flashlight out and in front of him. “I think she’s five feet from the door!”

All three of us sprinted that way.

There you go.

I rushed forward. “I see her too!”

She glanced over her shoulder. Horror shined in those brown eyes. She raised her arm in the air and shot at the ceiling.

Dust and tiles fell.

The crowd went even more hysterical. The few heading to the front suddenly turned around and sprinted our way. They shoved us back.

Fuck!

“Get the hell out of the way!” I did my best to push through them, but could barely get through. Shrieking dancers bumped into me. A man slammed into my chest and screeched. Tears streamed down his face. I shoved the guy to the ground and hopped over him. “Get out of the way!”

More people pushed me back as they fled.

All I could do was try and see where she was going.

Damn it!

After minutes of tossing men to the floor, we made it outside.

But, I knew it was too late.

Cool night air chilled my skin.

Cars rushed past us on the street.

Every damn sidewalk was empty.

My heart sank. My rage rose.

She’s gone.

“What kind of person steals from thieves?” Griff said between breaths.

“It’s like there’s no honor left in the world.” West wiped the sweat off his forehead. “How’s your arm, Cain?”

“I’ll have to get the first aid kit and bandage it up in the truck.” I scanned the streets. “It’ll be fine in the morning.”

West stared at the busy road in front of us and pulled out his phone. “Thank God you’re an anal micro-managing beast, Cain.”

I moved my aching arm. “Insurance is always important.”

West swiped his screen. A green and blue map glowed on it.

After the first time Griff lost our bag while we were running from the cops, I’d sewn a tracker on the next bags.

You’ll definitely regret this, sweetheart.

I checked the screen. “The bag is still moving?”

“Good.” Griff grinned. “She hasn’t dumped it yet.”

“Then, let’s get it back before she does.” I headed for our truck.

y heart roared in my ears.

I raced away, slamming my bare feet against the dirty, wet pavement. My lungs screamed and burned in my chest.

I rounded the corner of an alley, stepping on rocks and glass. “Fuck.”

My toes would be cut up. I grunted through the pain. There was no time to deal with it now. The only thing I could focus on was escape.

I’d been chased before.

It was nothing more terrifying than being hunted by a monster. It triggered primal fear to quake inside me. In that mode, I ignored all physical and mental pain. The mission was to escape. To seek safety. To survive for another day.
