Her Rock (Rocky Start) - Page 22

“I don’t think they’ll allow that on the menu.”

“I don’t give two fucks. Do what I told you, and Lydia…I love you.”

“I love you more.” She ends the call, and my heart pounds wildly against my ribcage. That’s the first time that we’ve said the words to each other, although I’ve felt them from the first time we’ve met. I’ve loved her and knew it from the start. Nothing in my life has ever felt as good as knowing that Lydia is mine. She has my heart, and I’ll never love another. I’ve waited a lifetime to find someone to make the pain of the past fade, and she was almost taken from me.

Chapter Ten

Lydia

Walking through the hospital doors, I find my man with another woman’s arms around him and I want to scream. Still, I take a deep, calming breath, knowing I’m being extremely irrational because she’s only assisting him with walking. It’s clear there’s nothing romantic or intimate, but I can’t help the jealous emotions flooding me that another woman is touching my man.

“Lydia,” he calls out as soon as his eyes rise up and land on me. I run toward him and he moves right past the woman assisting, nearly falling on his ass, but Bennett and the security guard are quick to catch him and settle him in the wheelchair as I get to his side.

“Oh my goodness. Are you crazy?” He picks me up, forgetting all pain, and lifts me onto his lap. “You are crazy.”

“For you.”

“I think you’re the best remedy for this bastard,” Bennett says.

“He was miserable and not eating until last night,” a nurse says.

“That’s because all I need is my woman here to make me better.”

“Well, let’s get you to the room before you do something indecent out here.”

“It would be better if you’d just release me.”

“I’ll do that later,” I whisper in his ear.

He growls, squeezing my ass. “God, I’ve missed you.”

We head back to the room with the help of the nurses, but first I climb off Whit’s lap, much to his dismay. Although I did leave my purse on his lap to hide his insane hard-on. There’s no way I want them bitches around here seeing his massive package in full effect, even if it’s hard for me.

Once we’re finally alone, he takes me into his arms and kisses me senseless. My hands thrust into his hair, dragging my nails across his scalp until I’m so heated, I’m pulling back to call out his name with the need for more.

“We need to stop,” I tell him.

“I know. I know.”

“Where are your injuries?”

“There are two bullet wounds in my back and one in each leg. Thankfully, after all these years she still isn’t that great of a shot.”

“I think she was good enough. I fucking hate her. She really wanted to take you away from me. Did she suffer from mental illness?”

“No, she was perfectly sane. That’s how she got paroled, and somehow I wasn’t aware that she’d been given a free pass. A bureaucratic fuckup about releasing criminals on good behavior due to budget cuts and crowded cells. Her paperwork hadn’t been entered in the system, and that’s the reason I hadn’t even been alerted that she was loose. She’d been out for two weeks. I felt strange and I could have sworn I saw her, but I thought it was because I’d mentioned her to you. She’d been stalking me.”

“I’m so sorry.”

“It’s okay. I’m glad I was honest about my past. That way you would have known if I hadn’t made out alive.”

“Don’t talk like that. Please don’t say things like that.” I bow my head in shame. I still have a secret that I haven’t mentioned, and it’s kind of a big deal.

“I’m going to be fine, babe. There’s no need to get upset.”

“It’s not that, Whit. There’s something I need to tell you. I should have told you, but I’ve been kind of embarrassed, shy, and well, unsure.”

“Babe, you—shy and unsure?” he scoffs. I swat his chest and immediately regret it when he grunts.

“Oh, no. I’m so sorry.”

“I’m fine, babe. Now tell me what this secret is.”

“I write romance books.”

“Do you, now?” He arches his brow. “What kind of romance books?” He wags his brows and growls, lifting me onto his lap. “These kind?”

“The kind that end in happily ever after, but always have lots of these moments in between.” He cups my pussy and I let out a moan.

“Are you published already?”

“No, actually I’ve just finished my first book, and Sean’s my agent. See…I was missing that one part…and well…although I’ve read about sex in books…it wasn’t until…”

“Until we fucked like horny little bunnies that you were able to write it?”

“Yes, and Darcy says it’s gold.”

“I’m jealous that everyone else gets to read it before me.”
