A Fragile Wife - Page 43

Elle shook hers. “You’re a mess. Are you taking this attitude with you on your second honeymoon? That should be a time for mindlessly boning your husband until he ain’t got a drop left in him. Don’t take the mind games with you. If you don’t have this all cleared up by the time you go, then you might as well not go at all. I’m serious.”

“Says the woman who has never been married.”

“Don’t give me that! You know no man can keep me tied down. It’s more like me keeping them tied up.”

Lana ignored that. She has a point, but I don’t want to admit it. Classic. “What do I do, though? I can’t ask him if he’s cheating on me.”

“Obviously. But you need to do something before you destroy your marriage over something as stupid as thinking your husband is cheating on you – when he’s not. I still don’t believe it for a second. Normally I’ll go along with a girl’s suspicions, but Ken? Ken? This is the man who would erect a Taj Mahal for you should you die right now.”

“Look, Elle, I’m not debating whether or not he loves me.” Lana leaned against their table, the rabble of other patrons in their sunny café nearly drowning out her words. “The man could still be super in love with me but still keeping a side piece. You know how dumb men can be. Even Ken could fall victim to his second brain doing all the talking.”

“Sheesh. And here I thought you had more respect for your husband…”

“I don’t wanna hear it.”

“Hey, I’m a neutral party in this case. I’m not gonna be Team Lana without any proof. You’ve got one woman’s shifty account, your maid reading your husband’s stationery, and their private conversations that sound suspiciously like flirting. I’m sorry for what you’re feeling, Lana, but that’s not enough. You need to either split or step up. Before you do something really dumb.”

“You make it sound like me doing something ‘dumb’ is a given.”

For some reason, Elle ignored that. “What are you two doing tonight? You wouldn’t come into town solely to meet me. You two must be up to something this fine Friday night.”

“We’re having dinner at six and then going to The Dark Hour.”

“Oh, fun. Wish I could join you, but I’ve got a business dinner that will last all night. Then I’m going to bed. I’m too old for the party life you and Ken still have.”

“I’d hardly call it that.”

“What are you doing at the club?”

Lana shrugged. “Not performing, if that’s what you’re asking.”

“Oh, it is.” Elle chuckled. “If you were, I may have to cancel and ask that you two hold off until 10:30 for me to get my ass there to watch.”

“Pervert.”

“I do my best.” Elle lowered her voice. “Going to that club could be your opportunity to really see how he feels about you. Confirm some suspicions or not. I mean, it depends on what you’re up to doing.”

“We’ll see.” Lana had to chuckle as well. “You know, it’s been over a month since I last called my cousin the lawyer. You’d think I’d be blowing his phone up right now.”

Elle cocked her head to the side. “Then that means deep down you think this marriage is worth saving. Even if you’re saving it from yourself.”

Sometimes Elle could be an ass, but she was usually right.

The club was unsurprisingly busy that Friday night. It was always busy Friday nights, much to Lana’s delight.

People flirting. People fucking. People flirting and fucking at the same time. She knew she was with her kind when she stumbled upon a man getting a blowjob whilst trying to pick up another couple for some swinging fun later.

“Have we played with them before?” Ken asked, his hand wrapped around hers as they searched for a couch to sit on. “He looks familiar.”

“Please, Kenneth.” Lana put her free hand on his shoulder. “July. I blew him, you blew me…”

“Ah. Right. I barely recognize him because I spent most of that night staring at your pussy.”

“As you should.” Mine above all else. “If we’re not careful, though, this club will start getting stale. Needs more fresh blood around our age.” No fun playing with college kids who managed to find their way in there. The occasional single was fine, even fun, but couples were so far up their own asses that neither Lana nor Ken could fuck them if they wanted. Rude. They’re rude.
