What Love Looks Like - Page 4

“Oh, no!” I’m about to dart out of the golf cart and run in the opposite direction, but before I can, Hudson whisks me over his shoulder like I’m a feather and jogs down the sand straight toward the Atlantic Ocean.

“Hudson!” I scream, banging on his backside and praying he isn’t about to do what I think he’s going to do. When he cackles like a damn psycho and pulls my heels off my feet, I close my eyes, preparing for the worst. Only the worst doesn’t come, and when I open my eyes, he’s dragging me down his front slowly until my bare feet are sinking in the sand and our bodies are flush.

“We’re here,” he says softly, jutting his chin out. Turning around, I come face-to-face with the dark water. Hudson snakes his arms around my waist and rests his chin on my shoulder as he walks us forward until the waves lap at my toes and then my entire feet. I’m wearing jeans, so the material around my ankles gets wet, but I ignore it as I take deep breaths of the salty air. My heart instantly calms, mesmerized by the way the water meets the sky, and the moon shines down enough to light up the softly rolling waves.

After staring out at the water for a few beats, Hudson guides us back enough to sit in the sand without getting soaked. He drops down first and then spreads his thighs so I can sit between his legs. For several minutes, we sit in silence, watching as the waves roll in, stop at our feet, then roll back out. I barely know this man, and I should probably be concerned about being alone with him on the beach, away from the safety of the resort, but all I can feel is comfortable. From the moment our eyes locked, I felt an instant connection to him.

“So what do you think?” he finally asks, breaking the silence.

“It’s beautiful,” I breathe, sighing against his chest. “Thank you.”

“Once the sun is up and we’re in proper attire, we’ll have to go in the water so you can get the full experience.”

I laugh softly and nod even though I know that won’t be happening. While tonight has been fun, I won’t be seeing Hudson again. For some crazy reason, that thought has my chest feeling heavy as if I’m already missing Hudson and this moment before it’s even over.

I’d like to blame what I do next on the alcohol, but we already know I’m not drunk, so really, I have no excuse, though it’s something I’ve thought about doing since the moment Hudson spoke to me.

Turning in place, I straddle Hudson’s lap. I lift his hat off his head and spin it around so the bill faces backward. And then, before I can second-guess my crazy behavior, my mouth connects with his.

CHAPTER TWO

SAWYER

As my lips curl around his and my tongue sweeps into his mouth, I briefly note that Hudson’s lips are soft yet firm. He tastes sweet with a hint of spice from the Jack and Coke he was drinking mixed with something I can’t quite pinpoint. I expect the kiss to be quick, and I’m preparing to pull back and apologize for attacking him when he grips the globes of my ass and stands, carrying me through the sand. A few seconds later, my back hits a soft surface, and I open my eyes long enough to see I’m on a double lounge chair under Hudson in a cabana.

With his arms caging me in, and his warm body pressing against mine, he deepens the kiss, his tongue swirling around mine. When his knee parts my legs, and his thigh rubs against my center, I groan into his mouth, arching my back in need.

He pulls back slightly, his heated gaze meeting mine. “Fuck, you taste so damn good.” His lips brush against mine softly, and then his tongue glides across the seam of my lips. Our mouths connect once again, and my arms tighten around his neck to pull him closer. We stay like this, devouring each other with our mouths and grinding against each other through our clothes, but neither of us takes it any further. My head is screaming, abort! You’re acting crazy and reckless, but my body is shoving my head to the side and covering her mouth, saying, get it, girl. You do you and worry about the fallout later.

“I can’t remember the last time I made out with someone,” Hudson murmurs when he breaks the kiss. “I feel like I’m a horny teenager all over again.”

He smiles against my mouth, and I laugh in response. “I don’t remember it being as good when I was a teenager,” I admit, pressing a chaste kiss to his lips.

He snags my bottom lip with his teeth and nibbles on my flesh before releasing it. “No, it definitely wasn’t.”
