Heathens (Depraved Sinners 2) - Page 113

Fuck.

I must be out of my mind.

Hurrying back down the steps, I pass Jasmine again, her brows still furrowed as her eyes fill with concern. “What’s going on?” she rushes out, racing after me into the garage, only to pull herself up short, seeing the brothers loading the back of a fucking military-grade truck with all sorts of weapons.

Roman pauses and looks back at her, his face scrunching as he tries to figure out what the hell to do with her. Indecision crosses his handsome features before taking a step toward her and digging the Escalade keys out of his pocket. He tosses them at her and she fumbles to catch them. “Time to go,” he tells her. “Take the Escalade and meet your husband. Ditch it in a remote area, pour gasoline over it, and light it up like a fucking bonfire. I don’t want a scrap of evidence left on that thing. Got it?”

She swallows hard, her gaze flicking back to mine before finally nodding. “Got it.”

Jasmine hovers in the corner of the garage, watching as the boys load up the truck and I stand back, knowing that I’m only going to be in the way. “Get in,” Marcus tells me, carrying some kind of machine gun that looks like it weighs a million pounds. He strides past me, the determination hard across his face as he makes his way to the garage door that hasn’t been opened in years. Then without warning, he lets loose on the machine gun and sprays bullets over the complicated locks that Giovanni installed.

Jasmine screams and drops to the ground, her hands curling protectively over her head as I race for the back seat of the truck. Roman climbs into the front, grinning as he watches Marcus in his zone while Levi gets in the front passenger side, shaking his head at Marcus’ performance.

The lock breaks free of the garage door and Marcus turns back, slinging the machine gun over his shoulder and striding back toward the truck. The grin on his face is like nothing I’ve ever seen before.

He climbs in the back beside me, laying the gun over his lap like some kind of pet before leaning back out his door. A loud whistle tears from between his lips and Dill and Doe come bounding into the truck, jumping up onto the back seat before bounding right through to the back. They drop down with impeccable car manners and before Marcus even has the door shut, Roman is hitting the gas and speeding right through the front garage roller door.

It tears off its hinges, flying out onto the driveway and crushing beneath the massive tires of the truck. I grip onto the door handle as my body is tossed around, and as Roman speeds past the Escalade that still sits in the center of the huge driveway, I glance back just as Jasmine comes tearing out of the garage after us and rushes toward the Escalade, more than determined to get herself out of here. I don’t blame her, my first few hours in that creepy castle were a nightmare. I would have done anything for my freedom.

Knowing the chances of ever seeing her again are slim to none, I turn back and get comfortable in my seat, hoping to whoever lives above that she can get herself back to her husband and be freed of this world for good.

The drive is long and silent as I stare at the back of Roman’s seat, my knee bouncing with nerves. Doe launches herself over the backrest and drops her big body onto the space between me and Marcus as her heavy head falls into my lap. I wonder if she senses my nerves. My hand falls to her head, subconsciously scratching behind her ears, and before I know it, Roman is pulling up in front of his father’s home.

The truck comes to a stop right in the center of the massive circle drive and we each stare up at the mansion the boys once called home, the place they grew up in, and the home where they received the most horrendous abuse. “Something is up,” Levi says, their plan to get the drop on their father backfiring. “They should have caught us at the front gate and been out by now.”

Roman stares ahead, his skilled gaze sweeping across the front of the property before he finally shakes his head and hits the gas again. “They’re not home yet,” he says, taking off around the side of the property to hide the truck. “Plan B. We take them from the inside.”

Without warning, Roman’s foot flattens to the ground and the truck takes off like a rocket toward the house. A piercing scream tears from the back of my throat and my head burrows into the wolf’s fur as the truck sails straight through the massive floor-to-ceiling windows of the dining room that I’d only been in a few weeks ago.
