Logan (Filthy Rich Alphas) - Page 22

People came onto the dance floor, making it more crowded. Soon the store’s third level turned into a nightclub—all packed from wall-to-wall with bopping people.

Logan and I continued to dance for a few more songs, our bodies smoothing against each other.

He was hard and warm, moving perfectly with the rhythm. I couldn’t help myself, wondering how good he would be in bed.

Shit. What am I doing?

I cleared my throat and backed away. “Hey, maybe we should go.”

Music and people moved and flowed around us in blurry endless motion. It was like we were the only two people on the floor although we were in the center of a crowd.

I swore desire decorated his face. I could’ve bet that I heard a groan come from his lips. I inched back some more, leaving space between us. Logan didn’t respond as he ran his fingers through his hair. I wished I knew what was on his mind.

Had he been as lost in the moment as I was? Was he nervous about it? Or maybe I was too vulnerable, creating something in my head that was nothing.

Tyson said Logan wanted me. Was it all in his head?

“Yes.” Logan nodded. “We should go.”

He took my hand, wrapping my fingers in warmth, and led us away. We slowly left the dance floor and headed out of The Yellow Brick Road.

“Sorry,” I nervously said. “It was getting too packed for me.”

And my hormones were revving up for some fun.

“Yeah.” He ran those fingers through his hair again, telling me something had unsettled him too. “Are you hungry?”

“Not really, but I...”

“What?”

“I don’t feel like rushing home.”

“Good.” He pulled his keys out of his pocket as we headed to the parking garage. “I wanted to spend as much time with you today as I can.”

“Because?”

“You’re fun.”

“No.” I wagged my finger at him. “It’s because I’m the best.”

“You’re a very humble person too.”

“I am the very definition of humble.”

We jumped into the car. Logan set the bag of books next to me as I strapped on my seat belt. I took that moment to take out Tyson’s notebook that Logan had stuffed inside along with the Kingmaker novels.

I placed the notebook on my lap, scared to open it.

Curiosity burned on my fingertips.

Logan started the car but didn’t back out of the parking space. “You have to know?”

“I do.”

“Sometimes knowing too much can make it harder to get over the person.”

“I think that the more I know, the easier it will be to get over Tyson.”

“Really?” Logan backed the car out of the space, drove us through the garage, and took us out into the street. “How do you think it will make everything easier?”

“I’d already planned on breaking up with Tyson this morning, but the whole time, I felt guilty.”

Logan stopped at a red light. “Why did you feel guilty?”

“Up until the notebooks, he’d been an okay boyfriend.”

“Okay is never enough.”

“I know. At least, now I know. I was being grateful for having a nice guy. You always see in the movies where there’s that girl that doesn’t appreciate the good guy she’s with, so she throws him away to only realize she did love him and he was perfect for her.”

“That doesn’t happen in real life.”

“It totally does.”

“I’ve never seen it.”

“And you’re Mr. Romantic suddenly? Mr. No Dinner, Just Sex in a Hotel?”

“You’re changing the topic.” He drove us to this cute café a few blocks from the bookstore. I’d met him there a few times.

He parked right in front and turned to me. “Read as much as you want of Tyson’s notebooks, but don’t get caught up in Tyson’s filth.”

I averted his gaze. “I do feel stupid.”

“Don’t. We all make mistakes. We all experience things that we could’ve avoided. No one’s perfect, and if they are, then they are probably boring as fuck and hating their life.”

I let out a long breath. “Thanks again.”

“You don’t have to thank me. You know I’ve got your back. Even though you were dating Tyson...it doesn’t mean that our friendship can’t continue.”

“Of course.”

“Basically, I’m Team Mia and Fuck Tyson.”

“I should get shirts with that written on them.”

“You really should.” He grinned. “Either way, if you want to go in this café and read these notebooks, that’s fine with me. You probably need to read some of it to get closure anyway, especially regarding Ashley.”

I felt a weight of heaviness on my chest. “Yeah.”

“Let’s go inside, order something, pop one of Tyson’s filthy stories open, and find out what has really been going on these past months.”

“Damn it, Logan. Why are you so perfect?”

“I’m not. Trust me. I’ve made some mistakes with you in the time we have known each other.”

“What mistakes?”

“I should’ve taken you from him.” He didn’t wait for my response as he opened the door and got out.

I sat in my seat, stunned.
