Beneath the Fallen Stars - Page 38

“I’ll tell you, just…not tonight. I just want to be with you.”

I can’t very well fault her for that. I said the same thing about the talk I want to have with her. “Deal.” I smile, letting her know I’m not angry or upset. However, I do know that in order for us to take this further, she’s going to have to tell me. “Now, I have a serious question for you.”

“O-Okay,” she says hesitantly.

“It’s actually more like a favor.”

“Anything,” she says, her mood a little brighter.

“You see, there’s this woman, she’s beautiful, kind, smart, and a blast to hang out with. I’ve been spending a lot of time with her this week, and well, I want to kiss her, but I don’t know how she’d feel about that. What do you think? I need your advice. Do you think she would let me?”

A slow, sexy grin pulls at her lips. “You know, I think she just might. However, are you any good at it? Kissing, I mean? You might need some practice.”

“Maybe, it’s been a while for me. But there’s another problem.”

“What’s that?” she asks, playing along.

“I don’t want to kiss anyone but her. So, how am I going to get practice?”

She giggles. “Ford?”

“Yeah, baby?”

“Kiss me.”

“My pleasure.” My hand slips behind her neck, and I fuse my lips to hers. I take my time savoring her. Her taste explodes on my tongue. I could kiss her just like this for the rest of the night.

I lose track of time as my lips mold with hers. Her hands are in my hair, and my arms hold her as close as I can get her at this angle. When she slows the kiss and pulls away, I groan. I’m not ready to stop kissing her. I never want to stop kissing her.

“Come with me.” She stands from my lap and offers me her hand. She doesn’t comment about my hard cock that’s clearly visible through my sweats. No, her eyes stay locked on mine. Knowing I would follow her anywhere, I place my hand in hers and let her guide me to her bedroom.

She doesn’t bother to turn on the light as she moves us through her room and to the bed. My pulse is thundering loudly, and I swear she can hear it. My palms are sweaty, but I refuse to let go of her hand to wipe them on my sweats. Instead, I will myself to be patient and follow her lead.

“Lay with me?” Her softly spoken request greets my ears.

From the light of the moon, I can see her silhouette as she climbs onto the bed. I waste no time kicking off my shoes and climbing in beside her. Snaking my arm around her shoulders, I pull her into me, holding her close.

“Ford?”

“Yeah?”

“You don’t need practice,” she says, making me laugh.

“No?”

“You passed with flying colors.”

“Good to know,” I say, giving her a soft squeeze.

“Ford?”

“Yeah?”

“Can we do it again?”

“You want to kiss me, beautiful? You don’t have to ask. I’m all yours.” She has no idea how true that statement is. It’s baffling to me that those words left my mouth, but it’s the truth all the same. In the span of less than a week, I’ve fallen hard and fast for this girl. Almost like a shooting star, if you blink, you might miss it, and that’s exactly how I feel about this moment with her. I don’t want to miss a single second. I’ll need the memories to get me through until I can see her again.

I really hope she lets me see her again.

She surprises me when she moves to straddle my lap, leaning in and pressing her lips to mine. My hands land on her hips, holding her to me as I let her control the pace. Her lips are soft and hesitant, but that’s fine with me. My hands and my mouth are on her. What more could I ask for?

A few hours later, we’re lying in her bed, both of us in a lot less clothing, our lips are swollen from kissing, and our bodies entwined. Every part of me is touching every part of her. This night with her has been more intimate than sex. I feel connected to her in a way that I’ve never felt with another person.

“Next question,” I say, pulling myself back to our conversation. We’ve been lying here for the past hour, in the dark, wrapped up in one another and answering random questions about each other.

“It’s my turn.” She playfully swats at my arm.

“Fine,” I say dramatically. “It’s your turn. Ask away.”

“Kids. Do you like them?”

“Yeah, I mean, who doesn’t?”

“Do you—”

I cut her off. “It’s my turn,” I chastise her playfully.

“Ugh. We’re terrible at this game.” She chuckles, and I feel that sound in my soul. I wish I could bottle it up and take it with me. I can just see myself sitting under the desert stars listening to that sound. I know without a doubt it could bring me home to her.
