Ignite (Wildwood 1) - Page 39

“I mean, I have an estimate in my head, but you can be more specific if you’d like,” Delilah offered so graciously.

“Seriously, Dee. I’m going to run over there and tell Lane you have a massive crush on him if you don’t shut up,” Harper threatened when she turned on her.

Delilah’s eyes practically bugged out of her head and she shook her head fiercely. “God, no. Please don’t.”

“Why? Because it’s true?” Delilah parted her lips,

surely ready to deny it all, and Harper pointed at her. “Don’t deny it. I’m serious. That whole ideal-man description you gave me last night? It’s like every characteristic that makes up Lane Gallagher, I swear.”

Delilah’s lips clamped shut, but she lucked out at that precise moment, what with the waitress showing up with their breakfast. She dumped their plates in front of them, then buzzed off to take the next table’s order. The place was starting to pick up, so Harper figured she could forgive her for the shoddy service, but whatever.

That would never happen at the BFD.

Harper grabbed the salt and sprinkled a bunch on her eggs and hash browns. After an invigorating night of awesome sex, she had quite the appetite this morning. She remembered fondly when West tried to eat her whole last night. Talk about awesome. She’d like a repeat performance of that particular moment sometime soon. But that was all she wanted. A fun naked romp and nothing more. That’s all they could be and she was fine with it.

Really.

Her mouth watered smelling that pile of delicious-looking bacon on her plate. God, she was downright ravenous. And not really caring much about the calorie count either. “Go ahead and deny it. I dare you. At least I’m brave enough to tell you what’s going on with me and West.”

“Fine.” Delilah dumped a bunch of syrup on her waffles and then viciously cut off a piece, popping it into her mouth. “You can’t tell Wren though,” she said, her mouth still full.

Great. Now they were both scared to confess to their friend that they were hot for her brothers. Worse, Harper actually had sex with West. Really good, amazing, mind-blowing, delicious sex that she wanted to have again. Soon.

Wren was going to kill her.

“I won’t,” Harper promised solemnly. “Though I guess eventually we’re going to need to confess to her.”

Delilah said nothing. Harper knew her friend didn’t want to confess anything to Wren and guess what? Neither did she.

“So what should I do now?” Harper asked, lowering her voice. She didn’t want West and Lane to overhear them. They were nearby, but not close enough to hear their murmured conversation.

“Do about what?”

Rolling her eyes, Harper tipped her head in West’s direction.

“Ah.” Delilah nodded, lowering her voice as well. “You act like you don’t want to talk to him.”

She knew she was supposed to play the nonchalant card, but he was right there. They were in the same room, he came over to talk to her, and now she was supposed to pretend he didn’t exist?

“I’m not much of a game player,” she admitted.

Delilah raised one dark brow. “Clearly.”

“Right. And your game-playing skills have gotten you so far.”

Delilah remained quiet for so long that Harper gave up on their conversation and started to eat her breakfast in earnest. Focusing on her food versus the man who sat nearby. She could practically feel his gaze on her.

Don’t look. Don’t look. Don’t look!

She didn’t. And she was so proud of herself it was almost ridiculous.

“He’s staring at you,” Delilah finally said minutes later. “Like he couldn’t care less if you know he’s watching you or not.”

“Really?” Hope filled her but she told herself to get over it. She was being foolish.

“Oh yeah.” Delilah smiled. “He’s looking at you like he wants to eat you whole.”

Harper gave up on her breakfast and tossed her napkin on the table beside her almost finished plate. “I’m going to the restroom,” she told Delilah as she stood. “Be right back.”
