The only sounds coming from her were her chews. She sat on my lap staring down at her hands. I wish I had a camera set up somewhere to capture this moment. After I fed her full, I cleaned up our mess and took out dessert. Brownies with pecans and vanilla ice cream. By the time I had the brownies warmed and ice cream in bowls she was pacing.
“Okay, I can finally speak. Please don’t get offended.” She paused to look at me with wide eyes holding up her hand pointing at the ring. “This isn’t your deceased wife’s ring, is it?”
What in the hell?
Only this damn girl would think something like that.
Frowning, I shook my head. “Are you serious, Jacolby? You think I’d some shit like that?”
“Listen. My mind is all over the place.”
“Clearly,” I grumbled taking a seat and eating my brownie.
“I’m in shock, okay.” She squeaked. “Shocked but so damn happy and honored that you not only want me to move in with you but to be your wife. That overthinking part of me thinks we should wait since we just back together but that logical part of me is shouting for me to say yes. I know you’re the one for me. Obviously, you know I’m the one for you. I-I…” There goes those tears and poked out trembling bottom lip. “You wanna marry me?”
She’s so damn cute.
Beckoning her over to me, she wasted no time rushing into my arms. Holding up a spoon full of dessert, I kissed her nose and lips. “And I wanna feed you too.” She nodded with the brightest teary eyes. I loved this woman so damn much. “Our passion, your passion to love me in all of my changing seasons birthed my purpose. I’m doing what I was created to do. You stepped into the fullness of who God created you to be regardless of if I was by your side or not. I love that zealous nature in you, Sassy Baby. Now together we’re about to become more than either of us can imagine.”
God is good.
With his grace and mercy to give me a second chance, I’m forever changed and thankful.
“Yes.” She cupped my face and said it again against my lips.
“Yes, what?”
“Yes, I’ll spend the rest of my life letting our passion birth purpose.”
