Changing Seasons - Page 43

I held my breath walking out of my bedroom. Pi was going to meet my Pi. Paxton eyed me and then moved his eyes up to the grey feathered creature on my shoulder. “Paxton, meet…meet…meet Pi.”

Paxton's face held a stone expression that made me second guess introducing him to my bird. “Sassy, you named a bird after me? I’m flattered.” Paxton chuckled.

“I’m no bird. I’m a king.” Pi squeaked back.

Paxton’s eyes bulged and his mouth gaped open in surprise. “How did you train him to talk like this? Is his vocabulary extensive or limited?” He tried to touch Pi and got his fingers nipped.

“You touch, you die.” Pi threatened.

“He answered your question.” I giggled. “Give me a sec.” I walked over to Pi’s larger cage in my living room and placed him inside. “Thank you for being a good boy.” I feed him a piece of food.

“So sweet, Sassy.” Pi bobbed his head up and down.

I turned to find Paxton right behind me invading my space with his fineness. “Umm, can I breathe?” He stood so close that I could feel the heat from his body.

“You named him after me.” His observation caused a flirty boyish grin to cross his handsome chiseled face.

Clearing my throat, I pretended not to be affected by his closeness. “Maybe. Maybe not. Don’t flatter yourself.” I plopped down on my couch ready to devour my tacos only to have him snatch the bag out of my hand and take a seat next to me. It’s like his focus had shifted to something else. When I became his sole focus, I became stiff as a board.

“I thought my ears were playing tricks on me. Hearing those rings, the tap on the wood floors when you walked.” He let out this animalistic groan. When he focused on me, I shivered seeing the burning flames in his eyes.

Many places on my female anatomy intrigued him, but when it came to my feet…they were his Achilles hill. My pinky and middle toe both had small black moles like the beauty mark above my lip. One of the many things he admired about me was how in-depth I took care of my body. Oiled my skin morning and night in a coconut and biotin oil blend. Weekly pedicures. Facial regiment out of this world. No matter the time of day I smelt clean and fresh.

“How long have you had the bird?” He spoke towards the ground; his attention was on my left ankle. Lifting my leg to eye level, his bunched brows turned into a frown as he pushed up my pants.

“Ww…what are you doing?” I tried to remove my foot from his grasp.

My teeth clamped down on my bottom lip feeling his thumb rub over the small tattoo. “When did you get this?” His voice was clear and heavy.

My attempts to move my foot from his grasp were effortless. “Please, Paxton. Don’t do this.”

“Answer me, Jacolby.” He lifted my foot until his lips touched my tattoo. The trembles and vibrations from my body soon matched his. We were attuned like that. Chemistry always ricocheted off the charts.

Hip soft lips made me swallow each lie that I tried to speak. “After we broke up. It’s not what you think though.” I needed to stop. Lying wasn’t getting me anywhere.

“Explain to me what it means then? Tell me why my name is on your body but it’s not what I think?”

My chest rose up and down. Breathing erratic. Eyes were hooded and my lady parts drowning from the flood in my panties. “I love numbers, Paxton. Everybody knows that.”

He chuckled as he leaned in closer. “No, you love me. Everybody knows that.”

With a smirk, I snatched my trembling limbs out of his hands. “Don’t flatter yourself, Paxton. The symbol has no reference to you.”

“So, you just got a Pi symbol on your ankle with hearts, and it means nothing? That’s what you're telling me?”

“Exactly. You and my tattoo have nothing in common.”

He looked deep into my eyes and found the truth. “Lie to me again, Sassy.”

My bottom lip trembled as my face reddened. Between his closeness, the smell of his cologne, and his voice – he needed to back up or I was going to combust. “You proved you couldn’t live up to the name. My expectations were too high for you. Doesn’t matter now.”

The arm’s length of space between us, he didn’t like that. Caging me in until we were nose to nose, eye to eye, he leaned in so close that when he licked his lips his tongue brushed a crossed my bottom lip. “How good is your self-control right now? You remember my other nickname for you? Triple Jay? Remember that name?” I paused as the wheels began to turn in my head. The minute I remembered, sucking in a deep breath, his eyes darkened, and a deep groan escaped his lips. “I’ll remind you. Many moons ago when I had you in my bed, you’d spell your full name for me. I made good on my promise to bring you to your peak by the time you finished spelling out your entire name.”

Sweet baby Moses.

This man wanted to ruin me, and I was going to let him.

Yes. Yes, I was.
