Of Fae and Hate - Page 22

Neryssa though…

“Going to ignore me then?” she asks and her voice is closer. “That’s fine with me,” she hums and I feel her brush up against me as she moves over to the refrigerator. “I wouldn’t want to talk to someone who slapped the shit out of me either.”

And there it is.

She’s trying to piss me off.

My hands clench into fist and I grind down on my teeth hard enough that it feels like they’re going to crack. I’d felt the force of her hand against my cheek hours after it happened. If I were human, her red handprint would probably still be tattooed to my skin.

Don’t engage.

I turn my head slightly, my sandwich forgotten as I take in Neryssa bent over while she looks in the fridge. I don’t know how those damn jeans don’t rip as they stretch over her plump ass.

I lick my lips and when I catch what I’m doing, unease moves through my chest. I rub at it, pushing the loaf of bread back across the counter. I’m not hungry anymore.

Fucking Neryssa’s fault.

I move to the entrance of the kitchen just as I hear the fridge door closing. Neryssa says something under her breath and it’s enough to have me spinning around and glaring at her.

“What the fuck did you say?” I bite out, narrowing my eyes at her.

She smiles, I swear it. The uptick of her lips only lasts for a few moments before they’re turning back down but I don’t miss it.

“I said I could get used to you being quiet.” She props a hip up against the counter. “It’s much better than listening to your bitch and whine all day like a brat.”

I take a step forward, my face flaming hot. Nerys raises a brow but doesn’t rise from her relaxed position. She has a chunk of a pineapple in her hand and as she watches me, she draws the yellow little square between her lips. Juice drips down her lips as she bites into the fruit. Her tongue comes out to scoop up the droplets and my heart starts to beat a little faster.

Her eyes meet mine and she smirks.

“Go to hell, Nerrysa.” It’s the only comeback I can come up with and I hate both myself and her for it. I’m supposed to be witty, always have been, and yet the childish remark is the only thing that comes to mind.

Neryssa’s smugness only increases and she gives me a small wave.

The last thought I have as I storm to my room is that she can shove those damn fingers right up her ass.
