The Matchmaker's Choice: A Lesbian Romance - Page 100

wear them because I shouldn’t get my good dress and shoes

dirty, but I said I wouldn’t get them dirty inside. I promised

her and she said her head hurt too much to argue.”

I laugh at that. You have to love kids and their honesty.

“They’re very nice. The dress and the shoes! Where did you

get them?”

“I don’t know. Some store. Mom bought them for me. I

didn’t go with her.”

“She has excellent taste, then!”

“You can’t eat it!” Tildy giggles.

“No, I suppose not. That’s just a silly saying that

people use when they mean to compliment someone on

something that they like.”

“Oh.” Tildy opens the door wider and then Adley

comes puffing over, her face flushed, out of breath.

“Sorry. I was just getting the mac and cheese ready.

Someone told me that they were starving and if they didn’t eat

immediately, they were going to die.”

I pretend to be concerned. “That sounds awful. I guess

you were right to get it started. If someone died in her pretty

dress that would be an epic disaster.”

Adley rolls her eyes. “It would be the worst, I’m sure.”

She looks down at Tildy. “That dress has to come off when

you’re eating. If you drop something on it, your mom will kill

me for real.?

?

“But I don’t have anything else to wear.”

“That’s okay. I’ll get you one of my shirts or a

bathrobe or something. A freaking towel. You just can’t wear

that when you’re eating orange cheese sauce.”
