Steph laughs. “Okay. So we can just watch someone

play pool or darts. But not a sports bar. Because watching that

is pretty boring. Unless there’s bowling on. Bowling is

alright.”

“Do you seriously bowl?” I find that really funny. I get

this mental image of someone in plaid pants doing that weird

stance where they put one foot behind the other after they

heave that massive ball down the lane.

“I’ve done it before.”

“Me too. It was also shitty. I’m not very good at

sports.”

“Me either. My brother is though. And my family likes

to do a bit of everything. I’ve tried lots of things once. Almost

every sport.”

“Crazy. Does your family play tennis?” Shit. Why did I

say that? Because rich people play tennis and go to lunch at

country clubs and eat tiny sandwiches and fish eggs? Fuck my

life. I wait for Steph to get mad, but she doesn’t.

“No.” She laughs and starts the car. “They sure don’t.”

“That’s kind of a relief.”

“Is it?”

“Do they golf?”

“My dad does. My brother hates it.”
