I thought I’d enjoy it more.
A moment later Evan—shirtless—leans out of the door. He hollers something after her. When Olivia reaches the exit, she turns and shouts something back.
Then she sees me. Standing there in the hallway, so obviously watching the two of them that I may as well have a recliner and a bucket of popcorn. We lock eyes. Evan follows her gaze and now he’s also looking at me, so all the adrenaline left in me dumps into my blood, and my entire body flushes with heat.
I… wave.
I think my hand is shaking. Evan and Olivia stare at me, and I can’t even blame them.
Oh: they could also shout, which Olivia does, something like “ALL YOURS!” echoing down the hallway before she manhandles her suitcase over the threshold to the outside and disappears into the hazy sunlight.
Finally, I turn around and pretty much run for the lobby.
