An Assassin's Oath - Page 99

Damien nods, “Remember I told you my baby sister was taken after my parents were killed? Your father told me she was alive and that she was taken in by Mateo Lorenzi— Jian’s father after she was abducted.” Natalia— Aria nods in response and smiles a little, her identical gray eyes glittering just like her big brothers.

“Oh, that’s why your eyes looked so familiar to me. It was almost like staring into Damien’s eyes.” I state and turn my gaze to Damien who’s lips quirk while he holds my gaze. I nestle into him when he lifts his arm and pulls me into him.

“Are you all right? Did he hurt you?” Damien questions, reaching up to brush away a strand of my hair and tucking it behind my ear delicately.

“No, I’m fine.” I smile up at him. “I knew you would come for me.”

“Did you now?” I nod, biting my lip and smiling coyly. “I thought you never wanted to see me again?”

My smile falters, and I sigh forlornly. “You hurt me, Damien, with all your lies and your deceit. Despite all of the shit you put me through, I still love you, and it took for all of this to happen for me to finally see that you’re truly still the only person I can really rely on or even trust.” I tell him earnestly, and Damien’s eyes narrow a little at the corners.

“I’ve been lied to by everyone around me. My own father, who is biologically obligated to love me, threw me into the lion's den without batting at an eyelid to save himself. I’m just so tired of all of this. I just don’t understand how—” I squeak when Damien grabs my face and presses his lips to mine. I melt into him, and the moment our lips touch, I kiss him back with equal enthusiasm. Everything around me fizzles away the moment his velvet tongue glides over mine.

“I do love how they’re making out like there’s not a dead body two feet away from them. That is the kind of love I aspire to have one day.” Aria sighs and looks at Jax, who winks at her flirtatiously.

“Oh, Christ.” Haylee sneers with an exasperated sigh. “I think I just threw up in my mouth. Hate to ruin this chick-flick-worthy moment, but do you think we can maybe get out of here before we all get busted by the feds?”

I pull away from Damien, panting, and he presses his forehead to mine. “What was that for?”

“You were ranting, and I really wanted to kiss you.” I grin up at him, and he kisses my nose before we walk over to the others and leave Lorenzi’s compound. “Who do you belong to?” Damien whispers gruffly in my ear, drawing me closer after he wraps his arm around my shoulder.

“I belong to you.”
