An Assassin's Oath - Page 91

I nod and watch her closely. “I guess so.” I reach out and touch her chin gently. “Stay safe, and if you need anything at all, you call me.” She nods, peering up at me through her lashes. I can see her eyes beginning to water again. “I’m going to arrange for someone to watch over you to make sure you’re safe, so don’t be scared if you see someone tailing you. I’ll make sure he introduces himself, so you know who he is.”

“Damien, you don’t have to do that.” She begins to protest, but I shake my head, stopping her.

“Yes, I do. There’s still a threat out there, and I want you to be safe, especially if I’m not going to be there to protect you.” I tell her tucking a strand of her behind her ear, and she nods.

“Thank you.”

“Of course. Come here.” I pull her into me, wrapping my arms around her waist, she pushes up on her tiptoes and wraps her arms around my neck, and we embrace tightly. I bury my nose in her neck, filling my lungs with her scent one last time before we pull back. I kiss her forehead and pull away. “Go on.”
