An Assassin's Oath - Page 74

Ezra

Men often say they don’t understand women because we are too complex or indecisive. I mean, have they taken a closer look at themselves? For the life of me, I can’t understand Damien. He must be the most difficult man to try and figure out. Just when I think I break down his barriers and he’s about to let me in, a switch goes off inside of him, and he slams the door shut in my face again.

What am I doing wrong? Am I fighting a losing battle here? I’m not even going to go into the whole I love you fiasco. It cut me deep that he didn’t say the words back, but was I honestly expecting him to? Damien doesn’t show weakness or empathy— I was foolish to think I could change that.

How long can an unrequited love last before it gets too much? Oh God, I don’t even know what I’m holding onto anymore. I should just accept my fate that this will be my life and stop grasping the hope that he will change and love me back.

While he’s in the shower, I tidy up the kitchen and throw away the barely eaten burrito that I made for him before I sit out on the porch at the back of the house where there was a swing seat. It was quiet, with a nice, serene view of a beautiful lake. The only sound was the birds chirping melodiously.

The sun's warmth on my skin felt so good. I gently rock myself back and forth while gazing out at the view. My mind recalls images of last night when Damien and I made love. For a man that says he’s never made love, he sure was good at it. It was so incredible I had no idea a man like him could be so gentle and loving. But alas, he’s now gone back to his factory settings once again.

“Ezra?”

“Out here,” I respond and turn to look at him when I see him walk out— freshly showered dressed in only a pair of blue jeans that sits loosely on his narrow hips. I study him as he walks over, lifts my legs, and sits on the swing with me before laying my legs across his lap.

“I like it here.” I voice as I stare ahead at the beautiful lake stretched out in front of me. Damien scans the area and nods slowly. “You’re pensive again. Something wrong?” I question, and he turns his gaze to look at me and smiles.

“No, everything is fine. Are you okay?”

I nod and smile when he strokes my ankle while he watches me. “I am,” Damien smirks and squeezes my ankle when I gaze at him through my lashes.

“Get dressed. There’s something I want to do with you.” He states, and I lift a curious brow.

“Fully clothed?” I retort with a cheeky smile that spreads into a grin when he rolls his eyes at me. I sit up and narrow my eyes playfully. “Damien Wolfe, did you just roll your eyes at me?”

His gray eyes go wide, and he fights the urge to grin. I can see the corner of his lips twitching with amusement. “What if I did?”

I shift and straddle his lap. Damien licks his lips and places his large hands on my hips, and squeezes while he looks up at me with hooded eyes. “You know what this means don’t you?”

Damien squeezes my hips and raises his brows in question. “What?”

I grin and bite my lip. “I get to spank you.” Damien stares at me, and something I never thought I would ever witness happens…he laughs with gusto. Like a full-on belly laugh, and it’s the sexiest laugh I have ever heard.

I observe him in awe, soaking up the sound and storing it in my memory bank just in case it’s a rarity, and I never see it again. I made him laugh. I made this cold-hearted, ruthless beast of a man laugh. To say I was proud of myself was an understatement.

Damien sobers up from his laughter and brushes his fingers through my hair. “That’s cute. Do I look like the type of man that would ever enjoy being spanked, pretty girl?”

I shrug with a playful smile. “How will you know if you don’t try?” I question, and Damien draws his bottom lip between his teeth and narrows his eyes at me in scrutiny while his long fingers curl at the nape of my neck.

“Try it...” He whispers hoarsely, pulling my face closer to his. “I dare you and see what happens.”

I shiver at the gravity in his tone. “You rolled your eyes, Damien, that warrants a punishment,” I claim, brushing my lips over his as I speak in a gentle manner to him. “What if I want to chain you up and do sinful things to you as you do to me?”

Damien smirks, bites my bottom lip, and tugs it eliciting a drawn-out breathy moan from me. “If you can chain me up, I’ll let you do whatever you want to me. How about that?” I sigh and pull my head back to look at him with a pout.

“Don’t underestimate a woman with determination, Damien Wolfe, especially if you’re the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. I might just surprise you.”

Damien grins sexily and brushes his nose over mine. “Oh, I’m counting on it. Now go get your sexy culo dressed, niña bonita.”

I chuckle and brush my fingers along his jaw. “Bésame.”

Damien stares at my lips and lazily lifts his gaze to meet mine. “Te voy a joder.”

“Is that a promise?”

Damien curls his fingers at my throat and licks along my bottom lip. “Yes, so stop provoking me. You know that I mean what I say. If I kiss you, I won’t stop until I’m buried balls deep inside that insanely tight pussy of yours and fucking you like a savage.”

My girly parts tingle at his words, but I begrudgingly slide off him. I’m still a little sore from the wild sexcapade we had the day before. Damien watches me intently as I walk away inside the house. “Where are we going?” I call out when I hear his footsteps behind me.
