Her Frozen Cry (Detective Amanda Steele) - Page 16

“What about meeting up with any friends or business acquaintances?”

“I wouldn’t know if anyone popped by while she was there.” He scratched his wrist, sliding his fingertips under the cuff of his shirt.

They thanked Harold for his cooperation, and Amanda gave him her business card. Before they left, they were shown to Alicia’s office with the request that they not touch or take anything with them until they had a warrant secured.

The space was plush and luxurious with a crystal chandelier that hung over her desk. Alicia had certainly admired the finer things in life.

They also spoke to a Scarlett Dixon, who worked as an assistant to Alicia and Tony. A kind young woman with a big heart. She seemed devastated by Alicia’s death.

“This is all that was in File Thirteen.” Harold stepped into Alicia’s office, a folder in hand. “Not much but hopefully it aids the investigation.”

“Thank you.” Amanda took the file and opened it. The stack of papers inside was at least a quarter-inch thick.

Harold dipped his head and left, and Amanda and Trent followed soon after. She was fixed on the fact that Harold hadn’t known Alicia was planning to sell. Having professed himself to be Alicia’s right hand, shouldn’t he have been privy to that? Also, Harold had invested start-up capital because of his belief in Alicia and New Belle. He certainly wouldn’t want to find his faith misplaced. What if Harold had lied to them to protect himself? Could he have killed Alicia Gordon?
