A Forever Series Box Set: A Paranormal Reverse Harem-(Book 11-15) - Page 311

I look at Devon and at his barely-there nod, I turn back to her. “Yes. Thank you for rescuing me. I will not be trying to kill you now.”

“Gee, thanks,” she snorts sarcastically.

“No, I mean it,” I say. “You helped me when you could have just left me there to rot. Thank you.”

“No worries,” she says. “I’d like to think you would have done the same?”

I pause at her question. Would I? Probably not, actually.

“How is Fraser?” I ask politely.

“Glad that he could help but his place isn’t here,” she says sharply.

“I know,” I say just as sharply. Then I soften my tone. “All he wants is for you to love him. Properly.” I indicate Devon with a vague wave of my hand to show her how she needs to let him show her affection.

“I do love him,” she says.

“Then treat him right, Liv. He needs that,” I say. “He needs to be allowed to love you. Do you understand?”

“Believe me or not, but I am currently undergoing a transformation. Let’s just say I was inspired to make some changes,” she says. “I get what you are saying.”

“I can see that,” I say weakly, indicating her change of appearance and accent. “Would this have anything to do with Constantine perhaps?” I add slyly.

“Maybe,” she says with a shrug.

“Good,” I say with a smile. “I’m glad.”

She nods her head and Remiel comes back into the room. “Shall we?” he asks.

“Wait, I want to see Fraser,” I say.

“No way,” Liv says with shake of her head. “I’ll pass along your thanks, that’s all you get.”

“Fair enough,” I say to her with understanding, but the disappointment is overwhelming. The dreams I had of him while I was out of it seemed so real, all because he was right next to me, talking to me. “Bye, Liv. Catch you…never?” I ask with a slight laugh.

She giggles back at me. “Never say never, Aefre,” she says and with a wiggle of her fingers, she disappears with Remiel.

“Well?” I ask after a few minutes. Devon is peering out of the window in silence.

He looks over at me and sighs. “They’ve all gone.”

“Gone?” I ask. “What do you mean ‘gone’?”

“I mean there is no one out there,” he says. “What a huge letdown.”

“What?” I yell. “Are they dead or what?”

“I am here, my sweet,” Constantine says, coming into the room.

“What is going on?” I ask.

“They were attempting to get through the wards. They didn’t want a fight, they wanted to talk. When they failed to get through, they left,” he says, sitting on the bed next to me.

“Why?” I ask, confused. Talk? About what? There is nothing that either one of them can say to me that will fix the damage that they have caused.

“I’d say just leave it,” Devon says, turning away from the window, then sitting himself down on my other side and curling up around me. Constantine gives us a look of utter disgust and then points to the door.

“He won’t Shift back,” he says.
