A Forever Series Box Set: A Paranormal Reverse Harem-(Book 11-15) - Page 144

“Me too,” I admit.

“Doesn’t take much,” he says with a smile and ruffles my hair.

I smile back at him. “I have a lot of damage to repair. Will you be okay if I leave you for a bit?”

“Yeah,” he says. “Go and sort him out.”

“Thanks,” I mutter. “Oh, by the way, you need to be caught right up-to-date. Talk to Dev and make sure he tells you everything,” I add when I get to the door.

He nods and I leave him to go and find CK.

Chapter 15

The Underworld, August 2014 – Cade

“Were you followed?”

Cade spins around with his heart hammering in his chest. “Jesus, lurk much?” he says sarcastically. Liv was right about this guy. “No, I wasn’t. I know how to be covert and to be honest, no one really gives a damn enough to follow me.”

“Good,” Remiel says and relaxes the tense set of his shoulders.

“There is something you need to know,” Cade says to his weird, new sire. He is still trying to get used to this relationship. He isn’t quite sure where he fits into Remiel’s orbit except as a spy. “Lincoln’s back.”

“The Wolf?” Remiel asks with a frown. “Since when? Why?” he demands.

Cade shrugs. “I have no idea why, but since before. He is in one of the guest rooms.”

“No!” Remiel shouts and turns his back on Cade. “I have worked too hard on this to let it all go to shit now.”

“Sorry,” Cade mutters. He hates being the bearer of bad news.

“Short of killing him, I can’t get rid of their bind to one another,” Remiel mutters.

“I don’t get it,” Cade says. “Why are you so worried about him? What about the others?”

Remiel turns back to him with an imperious look. “I have no need to explain myself to you,” he says.

“No, you don’t, but I am helping you. You should have the courtesy to fill me in on your plans,” Cade replies blandly. He only gives a crap because he has his own interests to look out for.

Remiel debates that for a moment and then clears his throat. “I have already used Xanthe to get rid of the Vampire in her. That means her Vampire ties are broken and Cole is out of the picture. Devon won’t be far behind once he realizes his true Demonic potential. Her tie to her sire is gone. He will do something to drive her away. He always does. As for Xane, I have taken steps to corrupt their bind. She will lose interest in him fairly soon. The Faerie tie is problematic, but nothing that a well-timed conversation about her recent miscarriage won’t fix. So, you see, Cade, I have put a lot of effort into getting Aefre exactly where I want her. This news you bring me is most distressing. Anything else you wish to add?” Remiel’s blue eyes bore into his and he tries not to flinch.

Yes, he is loyal to his new sire in a way, but he promised that he would never betray Liv again and he won’t. He won’t tell Remiel that she already knows about her daughter and is planning a rescue mission. His role here is just to report back and not do anything to cause suspicion. He can live with that. The fact that Remiel knows that she was pregnant and miscarried and why is a concern for him, though. If Remiel knows that, how does he not know about her rescue plans?

Cade swallows and tries to pretend that he didn’t just learn the information that Liv, or Aefre, or whatever she is called these days, desperately wants to know. He pushes aside the knowledge that it was the Faerie that destroyed her baby. It isn’t his business.

“No,” he says casually. “Just the usual drama that comes with that woman. God only knows why you want her all to yourself. She will probably drive you insane.”

Remiel smiles arrogantly. “I will tame her, have no concern about that. She is very easy to manipulate for one so strong.”

“When are you going to make your move?” Cade asks.

“Later on, tonight,” Remiel says. “I will tell her about our child and then I will take her to the Dragon Realms. I want you to make sure no one interrupts us while we are talking, and then you must tell them where I have taken her and why. I want them all to know that she chose me and our daughter, and that she will not be returning here for quite some time.”

“Done,” Cade says. It’s a simple enough task.

“Very well,” Remiel says and then vanishes, leaving Cade alone in the dark corner of

the garden.
