A Forever Series Box Set: A Paranormal Reverse Harem-(Book 11-15) - Page 77

“So am I,” he says and she looks relieved. This wasn’t planned, but it is right, he knows it. He has his daughter by his side and that is all he ever needed. Now he can enjoy it and not resent his sons for not being what he needed them to be.

“You don’t seem pleased about Aeval,” she ventures cautiously.

“You know of her ways,” he says, feeling slightly nauseous. “I am not altogether convinced this is Kalen’s.”

“Then you need to find out,” she says firmly. “And do what is necessary.”

He nods slowly. He loves his daughter, of that he has no doubt, but he cannot allow her to continue with her loose ways. There is too much at stake. He is her father, but first and foremost, he is the Dark Fae King and he must do whatever is necessary to protect his Kingdom, even if it means destroying her unborn child if it isn’t the blessed one.

Prologue

The Underworld, May 2014 – Aefre

I have failed. I have tried and I have failed. I knew deep down that it wouldn’t work. I am no longer a Vampire, and I no longer have my bond with CK, that is why I am so sure it won’t work. It is the only explanation that I can come up with why I cannot travel back to the past to warn myself about everything that is to come. Our strong bond to one another pushed us through time to the past to places that meant something to us as a couple.

But now, it is gone. I have my doubts if even going back would have changed anything. It is quite clear to me that everything that happens to me is a part of this humongous, intricate web of fate that has been woven for me on my behalf.

But you know me…I had to try.

Now, all I have left is to get on with things.

I dive into the pool and I concentrate on the long, even strokes as I make my way across the swimming pool. This is the first time I have been in here since we moved here. In fact, I think I am the only one who has used it. I miss swimming. I used to swim every day when we lived in Los Angeles. Then things just went to Hell and back.

I speed up and hit the end of the pool and I spin around underwater and make my way back across to the other side. I enjoy the peace and solitude and the water feels amazing rushing over my naked body.

I have been in turmoil for weeks now over my lost daughter, my pregnancy, Vito’s return to my life, Remiel ignoring me, the conflict going on inside my head that needs constant upkeep, losing Cole, as well as a long list of other problems and worries.

Seeing as I can’t fix any of it, it is nice just to chill out for a few moments before I go back to learning how to use that bloody map that CK developed when he was trying to find me in the Dragon Realms.

I get the concept, just not the workings of it yet. It gives me a headache just thinking about it. I push it from my mind as I reach the end of the pool again. I turn around and then float on my back for a few moments. I feel the chill air pucker my nipples and then I look up suddenly as I feel I am being watched. I am in the deep end, so I tread water while I fix the unwanted voyeur with an icy glare, which turns to a shocked heat as soon as I see him.

The man I loved with a fierce passion after Vito left me, and who Constantine will kill if he finds him here, even after all this time.

“Frederick,” I drawl in surprise, trying for nonchalance, but clearly failing. “What the Hell are you doing here?”
