Bitter Love (Boys of Silver Ridge 3) - Page 132

“It looks like Narnia,” she says when we get into the woods. “It’s beautiful.”

“Yeah,” I say, but I’m not looking at the woods. “It is.”

The trail connects our two properties now, and I pat my pocket, making sure I didn’t drop the ring in the snow before stopping.

“Come here,” I say, dismounting and gathering the reins in one hand. “I want to show you something.”

Josie looks at me, a little confused, but then gets off, walking Loki a little closer. My gloves are already off, and I have one hand in my pocket, holding onto the little box. My breath clouds around me as I turn, needing to kiss her just this once.

“I love you, Josie,” I start and the speech I’d written goes out the window. That tends to happen when I look into her eyes. “It wasn’t that long ago, love left me bitter, and it didn’t take you long to break down the walls I didn’t even know I’d put up. I love you and Ev and want us to be a family. You are the last person I want to see every night and the first I see in the morning. Will you marry me?” I drop down on my knee and open the box, watching Josie’s face. She smiles as tears fill her eyes and then she nods.

“Yes!” she exclaims, voice catching as emotion takes over. “Yes, Jacob Harris. I will marry you!” I pull her glove off and slide the ring on her finger. Snow falls off the branches above us in the breeze, sparkling in the sunlight. We have a lot to figure out now, but there’s no one else I’d rather navigate through life with than Josie.
