Bitter Love (Boys of Silver Ridge 3) - Page 111

“It’s fine,” Jacob presses. “I’ve spent many nights on hay bales using horse sheets as blankets.”

“In comparison, the couch isn’t so bad.” I set my purse and the little bag of supplies I bought from the motel office down on the small table, and then lean over to unzip my boots. I stepped in a puddle on my way into the office and just one sock is soaked, which annoys me more than having them both being wet. “Do you mind if I turn the heat up?”

“No, go ahead.”

I pad across the room and realize the thermostat is locked. “Well, never mind.” I bring my arms in and shiver.

“I have extra scrubs in my truck,” Jacob tells me. “I can run and get them so we can have something dry to wear.”

“That, uh, that would be really nice. I’d like to hang my clothes so they’ll be dry for the ride home tomorrow.”

“Yeah, sitting in wet jeans for a three-hour car ride isn’t fun.”

“Speaking from experience again?” I raise my eyebrows.

“Of course. I’ll be right back.” He leaves and I reach into the bag, pulling out a bottle of water, a toothbrush, and a little tube of toothpaste. Brushing my teeth while the water warms up, I run a damp washcloth over my face, wiping away any dust that got stuck to me. A hot shower sounds wonderful right now, and I have my hair twisted up in a bun by the time Jacob is back.

“Thanks.” I take a pair of scrubs from him. They’re light blue and will be big on me, but hey, they’re dry and comfy. “I’m, uh…I’m going to take a shower.”

Jacob nods and I hurry into the bathroom, turning on the shower before I use the toilet. It feels so good to stand under the warm water. I cool off rather quickly after getting hot, but it takes forever for me to warm up when I’m cold like this.

I dry off, get dressed, and find Jacob sitting on one of the wooden chairs by the little table, watching TV. He hasn’t changed yet and stands when I come out of the bathroom.

“The rain stopped?” I ask, not hearing it pelt against the window at the moment.

“For now.”

“Oh, I might run across the street to the gas station and grab something to eat. Do you want anything?”

“Sure, thanks.”

“Don’t thank me yet. Gas station food is bad enough, but when you’re getting the day’s leftovers, it’s usually pretty bad.”

“A bag of chips or something will suffice.”

I laugh. “Yeah, that’s probably a safer bet.”

Jacob goes into the bathroom to shower, and I hang up my clothes on the back of the chair so they can dry by the morning. Then, I grab my purse and the room key and step out. Right as I’m turning to lock the door behind me, I notice a few guys hanging out in the stairwell smoking. They go quiet when they see me, and I get an instant bad feeling.

Trusting my instinct, I go right back inside and lock the door behind me. I close up the curtains on the one window and look through the peephole. They’re not lurking outside my door, at least. Still, I’m not taking any chances. Pulling the covers back, I sit on the bed and watch TV. As much as I hate asking Jacob for favors, I’d much rather suck up a bit of pride than get assaulted.

Only a minute or two later, the shower turns off and Jacob emerges into the room with only a towel wrapped around his waist. Good lord, he’s an attractive man and it takes enormous willpower not to let my jaw drop or my eyes bulge.

His tattoos go up his shoulder and down his chest, and my eyes slowly follow them, gaze lowering to the patch of dark hair that goes down his abdomen, disappearing beneath the towel. He’s muscular and, right now, his skin is wet and warm, and I can see the outline of his cock beneath the thin towel, and holy shit, he’s a well-endowed man.

Throat suddenly dry, I sputter, unable to look away. My body is reacting, though I can’t blame myself. I found Jacob attractive when he was fully clothed. I thought about him touching me, even wondered what his rough hands would feel like against my thighs. Now, I’m suddenly worried I’m going to dream about him fucking me, destroying me with his monster cock. It would be a good dream any other day, but not when Jacob is only feet from me, listening to me pant and moan in my sleep.

“I thought you left,” he says, stopping short.

“I did but then I came back.” Blink, Josie. Look away and, for the love of God, stop staring at his dick! “Like right away.” Forcing myself to turn, I motion to the door. “There were creepy guys on the stairs, and they got quiet when they saw me.”
