Wolfsong (Green Creek 1) - Page 319

I had so many things to tell him.

So many things I should have said

So many things I’d never gotten to be for him.

He needed to know.

What he meant to me.

Everything he’d done for me.

I forced my eyes open.

I took in a gurgling breath, blood spraying from my mouth. I choked, but pushed through it.

I looked up at him and garbled out, “Thank you for choosing me.”

A tear fell down his cheek.

He said, “No.”

He said, “Please.”

He said, “You can’t, you can’t, you can’t.”

He said, “I will always choose you.”

And then his eyes were so red, I thought he was burning up from the inside.

Hair sprouted along the sides of his face, white like the snow.

He lowered his head, mouth open, fangs descending from his gums.

I’d never seen a more beautiful wolf.

I closed my eyes.

There was a bright splash of pain between my shoulder and my neck, but it was green, so fucking green that I couldn’t be bothered to take another breath.

So I didn’t.

And as I died, I smiled a bloody smile.

I OPENED my eyes.

The moon was full and fat overhead.

I raised my head.

I was in a clearing in the middle of the woods.

I knew this place. I knew it because it was mine.

It was home.

I sat up in this clearing.
