Hunter's Moon (A Hunter Kincaid Novel) - Page 21

Hunter thought about it, but couldn’t come up with anything.

Art said, “Now that we have it located on GPS, we can get some satellite images, see if something shows up.”

Hunter wasn’t so sure, “Maybe.”

Buck said, “Lincoln’s man called earlier. He said to call him when you return.”

Art said, “I’ll do it.” He hopped to another chair across the room and called.

Buck watched Hunter for a few moments before saying, “What?”

“Just thinking.”

“You want to go back and look around some more.”

“Uh-huh. But Art can’t travel.”

“You want, I can go.”

“I may take you up on it.” She glanced at Art, “I guess we’ll see what the big-shots have to say first.”

Art hung up and limped over to join the others. “He wants to meet us this coming afternoon at three.”

“Here?”

“No, he’ll wait at Cibolo Creek Ranch for us.”

Hunter said, “There are worse places.”

Buck said, “You two should get some rest before you go. Running around on the mountains all night is not gonna leave you real sharp. You want to be alert when you’re talking to them.” He pointed to two

rooms, “The beds are comfortable.”

Art hobbled toward one room as Hunter entered the other, wondering if she could even sleep right now. She sat on the edge of the bed, and as her rear settled, her eyebrows raised. It was a feather mattress. She smiled and pulled a feather pillow to her as she reclined and fell asleep in moments.

Art and Hunter arrived at the Cibolo Creek Ranch ten minutes early and saw Ashton wave them to the same area by the lake where Hunter met them previously. Hunter stopped to wait for Art as he rested his ankle, then they continued. Hunter said, “Bad, huh?”

“Oh man. Something’s grinding in there,” he said.

Lincoln said something to Ashton, who left the table and pulled his phone to dial.

When Hunter and Art were seated, Lincoln said to Art, “You’ll go with us when we leave. We’ll take you to the hospital for x-rays.”

“I want to stay.”

“No, you’ll impede the mission.”

Hunter said, “Get your ankle looked at, Art. I’ll be fine. We got most of what we needed already.”

Lincoln said, “Buck will help Hunter, or someone else will.”

Art said, “Are you sure?”

Ashton rejoined them, putting his phone in his pocket, “Buck agrees. He said he thought your ankle appeared broken.”

“Well, hell.”
