Corsairs: Kaspar (Corsair Brothers 2) - Page 54

My efforts have the desired reaction. She makes an offended sound and then giggles, smacking my chest. "If I smell, it's your fault, because I smell like you."

I grin. "In that case, I find your aroma charming."

"Aroma?" She makes a face. "Oh god. Okay, I'll bathe. You think I'll be safe here?" She glances around stream-side. "No bugs or any other predators?"

"Sterre will be glued to your side," I reassure her. "If there's anything in this area, she'll eat its face before it even gets close to you. Or did you want to go with me? I can wait." I gesture at one of the trees. "There's one that way that looks to be taller than the others. I'm going to climb it and see what I can see."

Alice makes an appalled face. "Climb one of these trees? They're the size of redwoods!"

I don't know what that is, but yes, they are quite tall. It appeals to my sense of danger, too. I don't point that out, because I suspect Alice won't like hearing it. "I'll be fine," I reassure her. "I'm good at climbing. Nothing will go wrong."

She yelps and moves forward to put a hand over my mouth. "Don't SAY that! The universe will decide you need to be fucked with and then more shit will go wrong!"

"Bah." I don't believe in that sort of thing. "The universe has given us enough to handle. So…did you want to come with?"

Alice shakes her head. "No, I think I'm going to stay on the ground here with Sterre and clean up." She looks around, worried. "Just don't go too far, okay? It looks like it's getting dark soon, and I don't want you leaving me alone all night."

"Because you want my mouth on you, distracting you?"

Her cheeks flush in the prettiest way. "Because you're the one providing all the warmth."

"That, too."

She makes a shooing motion at me. "Go. Go exploring. Go get your wild hairs all taken care of. Just be back before dark."

I laugh. Perhaps Alice knows me better than I think. Wild hairs, indeed. "I won't be long," I promise her, stooping down to kiss her on the mouth this time. "I'm just going to take a quick jaunt and look around for food or possible shelters."

"Sure, sure." Alice waves a hand at me, but she's smiling. "Have fun."

I pause, reluctant to leave her side. Wanting to stay with Alice and washing that soft skin of hers wars with the need to protect her and provide for her. When Sterre stalks forward and thumps down at Alice's feet, I decide that she's safe enough at the moment with the carinoux. I grab my weapon and my pants, tie my boots, and then jog out toward the tallest of trees, glancing behind me a few times just to make sure I can see Alice's sunshine hair. She's fine. It looks as if she's giving the carinoux a rub-down and talking to it. I turn back to watch her several more times, until I can no longer see her, and then I just start running at breakneck speed, trying to cross as much ground as possible before I make it back to Alice.

Funny how I don't like leaving her behind. I want to turn around and haul her over my shoulder, forcing her to come with me. Just to be near me.

I have no idea how this whole “long-distance” thing is going to work. I think leaving her behind on a farm planet will kill me. But staying there with her will kill me, too. It'd be a slow death of boredom and uselessness. I'm not meant for the farming life. I'm not meant to sit on the sidelines.

We'll figure something out. We have to. Somehow.

Until then, my priority is keeping her safe and happy. I can manage the latter with my tongue, and the thought makes me smug. She came so hard, wriggling on top of me as I licked her cunt. Her orgasm was almost more satisfying than my own. I can't wait to give her another. Tonight, I decide. I'll lick her until she comes just before bedtime, and she'll sleep like a keffing baby. I will, too, because just watching her climax will probably make me spill all over again.

I jog up to the tree that's bigger than all the others around it. It's the tallest, true, but that's not the reason I want to climb it. It's because it's the most intimidating one, and I need that challenge. It's like a sickness in me. Some people are addicted to nose spices, I'm addicted to adrenaline. Since I can disguise this as me needing to scout for us, so much the better. The bark on the tree is thick and ridged, which should make this easy enough. I tug my boots off so I can use my toes to climb, do a couple of stretches, and then pause.
