Down on Me (Man of the Month 1) - Page 64

"You bought me a ring?" It was a foolish question considering she'd opened the box to reveal a stunning diamond solitaire.

"It was my grandmother's. If you don't like it--"

"Are you kidding? It's amazing. I love it. And I love you."

The alley door burst open, interrupting one more kiss. "You two are the hottest thing on Twitter," Brent said, grinning ear to ear. "And the calendar contest is following a close second. All the phone lines are tied up with calls about when the next contest will be."

"That's great," Jenna said, her fingers twined with Reece's.

"Oh, and in case you're wondering. The vote's in. It was almost unanimous, so the count was easy." He looked up at Reece. "Congratulations, Mr. January. Apparently, your write-in vote swept the contest."

Reece's eyes went wide as Jenna and Brent laughed.

"This is your fault," Reece accused, aiming a mock glare at Jenna.

"Oh well," she said lightly. "I guess you can spank me later."

Brent burst out laughing, but from the look on Reece's face, that was very much on the agenda.

Jenna grinned, positively giddy, then held out her finger so he could slip on the ring. "And by the way, my answer is yes."

Epilogue

Spencer Dean leaned against the wooden bar and sipped his bourbon while the crowd went crazy when the guy named Reece professed his love to a woman named Jenna.

Even he had to admit it was a sweet moment, and that was true even though he wasn't in a particularly sweet mood.

His eyes swept the bar, picking out the details as he mentally redesigned the place, adding features, moving walls, making it a showpiece.

In the process, his eyes found her. He hadn't realized she'd be here tonight, though he supposed he should have. She was just standing there, talking with the woman with the long ponytail who Spence had noticed doing behind the scenes work during the contest.

"Excuse me," he said, catching the attention of a waitress in a The Fix on Sixth T-shirt. "Would you tell that woman I'd like to talk to her. The blonde, not the brunette."

"Um, sure." Her brow furrowed, and he realized she must think that he was trying to pick her up. "It's okay. I'm going to be working with her."

"Oh! You know Brooke, then."

"I know her all right." He shifted his stance, then worked to keep his voice even. "Brooke Hamlin's my ex-fiancee," he said.

And things were about to get interesting.
