Axel (Carolina Reapers 1) - Page 73

“That I love you? Or that I don’t want a divorce? Or that I didn’t want you to stop doing that thing with your tongue? Because I said a lot last night.” She flat-out smirked at me.

“I wasn’t questioning the tongue. I’m well aware of how to get you off.” I kissed her with a slow, lazy suck at her bottom lip.

“I meant everything,” she promised as her hands flexed against my bare waist. “Did you?”

“I don’t want a divorce,” I promised her again even though I’d said the words last night. “I never wanted one. In fact, my plan had been to marry you, then use the six months to make you so deliriously happy that you’d never leave.” My thumb stroked the skin of her cheekbone. “I only gave you the papers because I didn’t know you felt the same.”

“I do,” she assured me.

“I know that now.” My lips brushed her forehead. “Now why don’t you let me make you some breakfast so you can get to the interviews.”

“No, I’m good,” she answered with a grin.

“You don’t want breakfast?” Not that I blamed her. I seriously needed to order a grocery delivery full of things that actually had expiration dates.

“No, I do.” She laughed. “I don’t need to go to the interviews. I handed them over to Faith, remember?”

My brow furrowed. “Right, so we could have dinner last night.” And dessert. A few times.

“I actually handed over the entire project to her. She’s running all of the interviews and making her choice. I wanted to make sure my schedule was clear if we didn’t get everything hashed out last night. My plan was to tie you to the bed until you agreed to keep me.” Her fingers trailed across my waist and down the lines of my abs until she reached the waistband of my boxer briefs.

“You cleared an entire week of your schedule to seduce me into staying?” I clarified, simultaneously intrigued and shocked.

“I did.” Her gaze fell away. “I should have done it when Tage was hurt.”

I lifted her chin with my thumb and forefinger. “Look at me.”

Slowly, her eyes met mine.

“We both made a lot of mistakes that week. We both should have called. We should have communicated. We should have leaned on each other no matter the physical distance that separated us instead of letting it rip us apart. We can rehash the subject until we’re blue in the face, but there will never have been a perfect solution. All we can do is try to learn from it so it never happens again.”

She rose and kissed me softly, letting her lips linger just long enough to taste the mint of her toothpaste. “I like that plan.”

“I personally liked yours. Want to tell me more about this seduction you had planned?”

Her fingers slipped beneath the elastic of my waistband and skimmed the line where they rested just above my hips. “My plan was mostly to take my clothes off and see if I could distract you that way.”

I pushed my hips against her belly, letting her feel exactly how distracted I already was. “Please, continue.”

Her tongue swept across her lower lip, and my pulse picked up. She backed up a step, and my hands fell from her. Then she reached for the maroon satin of her robe and pulled on the tie. “I was hoping that once you saw skin,” the little knot she’d tied unraveled and the sides of the robe started to slide apart, “you’d figure it out.”

With a shrug, her robe slid from her shoulders, caressed her arms as it fell, then landed in a pool at her feet.

Holy shit, she was naked.

“I think I can handle this,” I said slowly as my eyes took in every delicious curve of her body. Fuck breakfast, I was going to devour my wife.

She backed away, and I stalked her like a predator with its prey, just waiting for her to signal that she was ready. Her back hit the granite of the island, and she crooked her finger at me.

In less than three steps, I had her in my arms and my tongue in her mouth. Her curves pressed up against me, her breasts against my chest, her belly cradling my rock-hard cock. I’d had her three times last night and still wasn’t satisfied. I wasn’t sure I ever would be.

The need to be inside her again, to take her so thoroughly she’d feel me in her soul, took hold. I gripped the backs of her thighs and lifted her to the counter. She gasped as her ass hit the cold granite, but she didn’t stop kissing me.

If anything, she went for me harder, tugging at my hair and kissing me deeper.

I broke the kiss only to lick and suck at her breasts, still rosy from last night’s attentions. She cried out and arched into me. I gripped her hips and pulled her closer until her hips lined up perfectly with mine.
