Lake (Trinity Academy 3) - Page 6

“Which guard?” Falcon asks. I watch him walk to where Stephanie is talking with two cops and one of our guards.

Mason comes jogging toward me with Layla right behind him. “We can move the car,” he says.

“Great,” I say and smile at Kingsley as she helps me to my feet. “I’m going to head inside then.”

Before I can leave Stephanie comes walking toward me. “Lake, I’ll handle everything here. I’ll call if I hear anything. Go rest.”

“Was it really West Dayton?” I ask.

“As far as we can tell. The footage shows it’s his car that went off the side, but until they reach the wreck, we can’t be sure.”

I glance at Mason, who doesn’t show any expression on his face at hearing the news. After the accident yesterday, I feel rattled. Falcon and Mason are like two mother hens, so I do my best to act like my normal self so they’ll stop fussing.

Stephanie called late last night to let us know it was West who died in the accident. It sucks that he died so young, but damn, I can’t exactly mourn his passing.

There’s a knock on my door, and then Falcon pops his head into the room, “Are you ready?”

“Yeah, just need Mace to help with the tie,” I say as I get up, but a wave of dizziness drags my butt back down to the bed.

“Lake?” Falcon rushes into the room and crouches in front of me. “Are you okay?”

“Just dizzy. They said it could take a while before I felt the effects of the whiplash.”

“You sure it’s just whiplash?” There’s a worried frown on his face.

“I’m sure,” I reply, and getting up again, I take it slower this time. “Mace, help me with the tie.” I walk out into the living room and smile when I see Layla and Kingsley.

Kingsley lets out a low whistle. “Lee’s ovaries are going to do backflips when she sees you.”

“Thanks… I think,” I let out a chuckle and turn to Mason. When he starts fixing the tie, Layla asks, “Why haven’t you learned to make a tie?”

“It’s easier to just let Mason do it.” I grin her way, and when Mason pats me on the shoulders, I say, “Thanks, buddy.”

Mason walks to Kingsley and presses a kiss to the top of her head. “I’ll come by your suite when we get back.”

Layla gets up to hug Falcon, and feeling like the odd one out, I walk to the table and grab my car keys.

“We’re taking the Bentley, and I’m driving,” Mason says before he gives Kingsley another kiss.

“Yes, Dad,” I mumble, and dropping the keys, I walk to the door. Before I leave, I say, “Enjoy your freedom, girls.”

“What freedom?” Mason grumbles while coming after me. Before he can wrap an arm around my shoulders, Falcon yells, “He’s got whiplash! No chokeholds until he’s better.”

I turn and grin at Mason while we walk into the hallway. Not being able to resist the chance, I tease, “No chokeholds until I’m better.”

“Can I kick his ass? There’s nothing wrong with the lower part of his body.”

“Mason! Don’t you dare bully Lake,” Kingsley shouts.

“You’re outnumbered.” I begin to laugh, but it only makes a low throbbing start in the back of my head.

I close my eyes for a second, and it has Mason framing my face with his hands. “What’s wrong?”

I push his hands away. “Just a headache.”

Falcon comes out of the suite, and hearing my words, he asks, “Shouldn’t we postpone the lunch for when you’re better?”

“No, I’m fine. Let’s get going before we’re late.”

When we walk out of the dorm, Falcon asks, “Are you sitting in the back?”

“Is that a trick question?” I grin. “It’s a forty-minute drive. I’m sleeping all the way there.” I unbutton my jacket and take it off before I climb into the backseat. Lying down, I close my eyes, willing the whiplash to not get worse.

When we reach the country club, and I wake from the nap, my neck feels even stiffer than before.

It’s only for two hours. You can do this.

I get out of the car and pull on my jacket again. While I’m fastening the button, two more cars pull up. I watch the security get out of the first car, and then they open the back door, and Mr. Park steps out.

My eyes dart to the second car, and my eyebrow raises slightly when the mistress climbs out of the back, along with Lee.

“Please tell me I’m not the only one who thinks it’s weird that they didn’t drive together,” Mason grumbles under his breath.

“Their culture is different from ours,” I remind him before I turn to Mr. Park. I’m not sure whether I should bow or offer him my hand, but when his eyes just skim over me, I decide to do neither.

I watch him walk inside, and then Falcon asks, “Why didn’t you offer to shake his hand?”
